HOW TO MAKE AN ADJUSTABLE & REMOVEABLE CANOE YOKE!

In this video I will be making a removeable and adjustable canoe yoke. I have a vintage Mad River without a yoke and carrying it is awkward despite it being a Kevlar canoe. So, I needed a yoke, but I also wanted it to be mountable in more than one place, and on more than one boat! So, I came up with an idea to accommodate all of those elements. This is a down and dirty version. That means no talking and I sped the video up for folks. If there is a specific about the project you would like more info on, just drop a comment and fire away. I am heading out this weekend to do two nights on an Island, so I wanted to be able to move my boat around easily. I also just flat out needed a yoke as my goal is doing some "real" canoe trips. This worked very well. I could not be happier with the results. It is pretty and it works. Done.

Hey thanks for the feedback and checking it out. It works awesome. The only change I made was two fender washers between the knobs and the wood to keep the knobs from digging into the wood when you crank it down. If eventually the slot for adjusting makes it fail, I'll just make another lol.

Hitting Squam this weekend and wanted to have a yoke for that trip despite there not being a single portage lol.

@@ItsGoodintheWoods yessir. 2 nights on Bowman with a buddy. HOPEFULLY I don't skunk. My experience fishing is all rivers and small water. Been doing my bigwater research though lol.

Speaking from personal experience, you are much better off drill individual hole through the yolk than making a slot. It’s hard to get the bolt tight enough, it terrible to have the yolk slide around in the middle of lifting the boat. I have one of these slotted ones and I glued in a piece of wood as filler, then drilled a series of holes. The holes do need to be elongated with the drill bit to allow the bolt to adjust its angle. Thanks for the tip. That being said it works really well with these clamps. But at this point it is mostly used as a camera mount. As the canoe I typically paddle has a yoke

@@projectknifehand I should have mentioned one’s experience will be effected by the material the gunnels are made of. My canoes have aluminum gunnels and they probably are more likely to slip than wood rails. The tumblehome also pitches the gunnels in meaning there is less contact area between the yoke and gunnels.
