How to Make an EVA Foam Viking Shield | VIKING Inspired For Your Next Cosplay Build | Jörmungandr
Hello Friends! I've been wanting to make a shield for the longest time, and the cards were finally aligned to allow me to cross it off of my ever-growing project build list.
The Shield is made completely from EVA foam and uses paint stir sticks for both supports and the grip. The template for the shield and the Jörmungandr stencil can be found at links below.

Excellent step-by-step - one of the best I've seen. I particularly liked the extra details of the little hole-punched circles to simulate nails/tacks, and the use of the ball head on the Dremel to simulate hand-hammered steel on the center boss.

I saw your tiktok first and jumped over here to watch the complete build! You would swear it was really wood and leather! It looks amazing and the stencil is the cherry on the top!

Thanks! I'm glad you saw the TikTok of the build (I put another up of the painting). Applying many washes of paint is what helps sell texture detail.

How large are the square mats? I know you said 10mm thick, but are they 24x24? Thank you so much for sharing this project in such detail! You're amazingly talented!

Ah thank you!!! The mats are 24x24, but some of that measurement is the interlocking edges, so the template is scaled to fit what's left when the edges are trimmed away. I hope this helps:)

what was the time involved in this build

Building was pretty quick, only about 3hrs. Priming and painting was done in stages over 2 days, so that layers could dry before new paint layers were added.
