This was beyond helpful. Thank you so much for breaking this all down for us. I had no idea what a flirt pole was when I woke up this morning. Now I realize I need this in my life. The lunging whip is EXACTLY what I was thinking of using. So finding this video makes me feel prepared enough to start doing this with my little manz

You definitely have to be careful with that flirt pole because I have a 10 month old mal and she is so intense with her prey drive that she chased that thing until she literally couldn’t stand up straight. I learned my lesson the hard way about leaving them wanting more

That looks like a nice durable pole! Could you make a build video? I am having difficulty imagining how the swivel and other hardware fits together. Also, you said to drill a hole but does that mean that the whip pole when you cut it off is solid rather than hollow? What kind of drill bit do you need to drill through the material, etc...

Wonderful helpful video and have started gathering my supplies as I have a mali/GSD pup who will benefit hugely from a flirt pole. Please could you explain how you joined the ring/swivel to the rounded off end of the whip handle? Thanks so much. Am about to start watching your channel and have subscribed. Drilled a hole through the end and then added the swivel and metal ring. I then cut the metal ring in half and bent it a little bit open so it could fit through the whole in the handle. Then bent it closed and tick welded it.

It will develop prey drive, that's what it's made for. It won't make your dog aggressive, it's just a chase and catch game.

I have a 10 week old beagle and i tried the flirt pole with her and she would NOT want to let go of rope toy at the end. Even when i waved a hot dog in front of her nose, you could tell she was really into "her prey" - at least that is how i perceive it... After i was done playing, she saw my toddler running around a little and when he fell, she basically attacked him - I'm sure playfully, no damage done other than a fright on his behalf, but when i picked her up off of him, she growled quite a bit... Is this normal behavior? What can i do? I really just want a way to tire her out, but not at the expense of making her aggressive...

Hi, the flirt pole doesn't make your dog aggressive. Chasing the rag is just a game. You should correct the puppy when it does anything towards your children that you don't like. You could also first teach the puppy to let things go, then play the game again so that you can get the pup to leave. But if the flirt pole does not work for you and your dog as a game. You could also rather do something else.
