In this video we're going to make a very simple, easy "squish" mold for skateboard bushings. This style of mold allows for all kinds of awesome customization, and is very easy to make and use. Hope you dig it!

A pressure pot doesn't remove bubbles, only makes them small enough that you cannot see them. Degassing the mix prior to pouring would remove the bubbles.

I am only watching this because of your creativity and extremely satisfying editing (I have nothing with skateboards). I might use the technique in something completely different but for now, your videos are just so entertaining. You just popped up in my recommended so I would not be surprised if we see your channel grow soon, you would definitely deserve it.

That is really nice to hear, thank you! I've also got a bunch of channels I follow that don't really relate to any of the things I do, but I love them anyway. How pleasant to learn that I can be that for someone else. Thanks for the support!

I'm loving your channel so far, no clue why you're not more popular. I'm trying to watch nearly every video you've made, at least where it pertains to skateboards. I'm sad that I didn't discover your channel last year, as I would have been joining you in the experimentation. Just got back into longboarding last year. Now that I've aged significantly, money is a bit easier to come by, so I bought all sorts of fancy wheels, bushings, trucks, decks and my wow does the cost just add up for quality skate parts, especially if you want to experiment. Covid is making it that everything I wanted to get this season is out of stock, and it's starting to get frustrating. I've wanted to do the DIY approach ever since getting back into things, but haven't been able to find anyone dedicated to the DIY approach until now. Your videos have motivated me to start testing my own DIY components for this 2021 summer season. You've already covered bushings (Which technically is the same foundation for pivot cups), wheels, boards, and board art. Only skate parts left are griptape, bearings and trucks. Griptape is cheap, bearings are insanely difficult and practically impossible/useless for the cost to DIY. Trucks however are definitely possible and I am very excited about. I have access to a CNC milling machine at a local makerspace where I live. May need to start experimenting as soon as they re-open post covid. For now, it'll have to be 3d printing and urethane casting. You've got yourself a new patreon supporter.

Yo! Thanks for the support dude and I'm so stoked to hear that I can help you in your DIY skate experiments. Trucks are coming this year! And hopefully an updated setup for cored longboard wheels along with the new coreless casting setup. Keep me posted on your builds!

Great video. This video inspired me to buy a vacuum pot and attempt to make gas tank bushings for an old motorcycle I'm doing a custom build on. What material would you recommend for casting those types of bushings?

irritating how much money aftermarket automotive companies charge for bushings- thank you for this. I figured silicone would work for the basic shape. doesn't need to be perfect for motor/diff mounts etc. I definitely want the possibility of custom durometer/maybe hollow bushings. 3D printer has promise in this area specifically, but not there yet.

These were cast in a 90a urethane, you can cast bushings of different duro's but you have to use a different formula urethane
@dariodraiman6339

I've seen people using a hot air gun to eliminate the air bubbles after pouring the urethane and it seems to work. I'm not sure if this would work with the silicon mold. Otherwise, for people who don't have a pressure chamber, I was wondering if we could make do with something that could work with a jar, a plastic lid with a silicon seal, an inner tube valve from an old bike tire and a bike pump we can use to get to those 45 PSI. Is this too crazy?
@GoodRoads
@GoodRoads 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't go that route just because pressure vessels are effectively little bombs if they shatter. I was originally going to make one out of PVC until I started reading all the horror stories. On a brighter note, I'm going to be exploring some inexpensive vacuum degassing options. If they work, and if I can find a urethane with a long enough pot-life to do vacuum degassing, it should be a really easy, safe way to get started. If a vacuum chamber fails it just collapses, which is much better than a pressure pot bursting and throwing shrapnel all around.

It might work with a stiff silicone, you'd have to be really careful not to deform them mold while casting so that the rolling surface stays true and the bearing seats stay accurate
