DISCLAIMER: Do not attempt this if you are under legal drinking age!
Hi everyone, in this video I will be showing you what is perhaps the simplest way to go about brewing a 1 gallon batch of beer. This is a very straight forward recipe, using simple tools and ingredients, that is not at all complicated compared to other methods of how beer is typically brewed at home.
When I first started out homebrewing, I was so confused and discouraged by the lack of simple instructions or concrete recipes on how to just brew beer, especially when it came to making a one gallon batch. After much experimentation. and trial and error, I think I have finally come up with a recipe that works for me, and hopefully it works for you too!
For those who don't care to watch the whole video from start to finish, here is the rundown of how I make it...
What you will need:
"Tools" - a 1 Gallon Fermenter, some Measuring Cups/Spoons, a Funnel, a Small Scale (Recommended), a Tupperware Container (large enough to sit your fermenter in, also recommended), a (very) Large Bowl, a Cheesecloth or Nut Milk Bag, and Bottles for your final product.
"Ingredients" 1 Gallon Water, 1 Pound of Barley Malt, 14 Grams of Hops (Dried), 1/3 Cup of Honey (or 1 Cup of Regular "Priming" Sugar), 3 Grams of Yeast (Baker's Yeast will do just fine).
First, wash your hands and the fermenter with soap and warm water. Rinse. Add the barley malt, then the hops, then add your (lukewarm) water. Add your priming sugar, in this case, honey, and then add the yeast. Swirl in around for a bit. Fill the airlock with water and put it on the jug. Place fermenter in a large Tupperware container in case of overflow during fermentation. Let ferment at room temperature for 3 weeks. Once 3 weeks has passed, filter your brew through a cheesecloth or nut milk bag into a large bowl. Now you are ready to bottle! Using the funnel, pour your beer into your bottles using the measuring cup. You should get around 6 and a half 500 ml bottles. Add a carbonation drop to each bottle (follow the instructions on the package depending on your bottle size). Cap your beer and let sit at room temperature to carbonate for a couple weeks. I tried one a few days after bottling and it was pretty well carbonated already. After a couple weeks, place them in fridge to chill so that your beer will be cold, crisp, and refreshing! And there you have it, how to brew beer, the easy way!
Now I know there are probably some beer snobs out there who would not approve of my methods and would probably turn their nose up at my beer as well, but what I would say to them is, who cares? This video is meant for the beginners who may feel frustrated and overwhelmed by the lack of clear instructions and recipes out there, which is perpetuated by these beer snobs who think everything has to be done in a certain way and must have a certain flavour profile, or else it is crap. I really do think that for the average person just getting into homebrewing, who may not have access or the financial means for some of the higher end equipment, this would be a "pretty good for a first try" kind of a beer. And what truly matters is you are learning and having fun in the process. So with that being said, cheers, and happy brewing!

Yes, you can absolutely use regular table sugar! I would say about 1 cup of sugar per gallon. Happy brewing! 🙂

No sanitizing? No gravity readings? I hope nobody get hurt…..

In my experience, that hasn't been necessary. Soap and water works just fine to disinfect and I've never owned (or needed) a hydrometer. When it's done, it's done and usually turns out fine. I'm not concerned about knowing the ABV either as long as it's drinkable, no one gets hurt.

Is your fermenter an imperial or a US gallon?

I'm not sure, it doesn't say. It just says ONE GALLON on it. I would imagine it would be US gallon, because that seems to be the standard for measuring this type of liquid.
