I was literally researching about this and you showed me the way into aqauscape now I can aquascape my betta's tank and my 55 with tiger barbs thanks, but I l still put a filter just to be sure since i m new into aquascape the closest thing I have done to aquascape is putting a lot of duckweed in my betta's tank and anubias in my tiger barbs tank, but chris keep up these vids we new hobbyist need them because of you I started using petscord 😂. and BTW the koi betta is so coooooooooooooooooooooooool. its so lucky to have a fish parent as caring as you.

When you grow the Ohko Stone, do you have to use nutrient rich substrate like the one you used or can you use plain sand?

Thank you for this video. I’ve always wanted to do a real fish tank like this. When I was younger I used to have a betta, but now that I’m older I’m amazed he lived for over 10yrs because I was a former fish abuser considering the size of his tank. I’ve vowed that the next time I will do a proper sized tank and I want to do real plants. I’m going to save this video as reference for when that day comes, and hopefully you’ll still be doing tank reviews too. ☺️

I built a similar sized planted filterless tank for my betta, and the perimeters stayed within a healthy range. My problem was lack of water movement. Which caused thicker usual oily bio surface and the seed type shrimp critters and glass mico worms to explode. My betta would chase and eat them, and water changes did help, but I ended up having to add a bubbler to shake up the stagnant water. It worked no more mico critter issues since.

I have my open tank with red root floaters. And I keep it a inch and a half below the rim with water. The floating plants help Deter my betta from jumping. I do have to top off my tank more though due to evaporation.

I seal the edges with duck tape or cardboard lol or use duck weed or water Lettuce to block the betta from jumping out

Great scape. I've never thought to use styrofoam in a scape before & the new female koi Betta has great colors. Also I spy an orange Betta in the background. Guess you went on a Betta shopping/rescue spree recently haha
