Your content is positively fantastic. The niche of simple blender tutorials has so many creators for it but this intermediate level content explained this well I find quite hard to come by. Keep it up, I'll be watching.

I love your videos. How advanced can you get? I would love to see a shader unifying all of your glass shader techniques. Crystal dispersion, caustics, volume absorption, etching, control over reflection and refraction with regard to everything. How advanced can you make it? What about anisotropic light splitting seen on CD's and DVD's. Defects and bubbles within the glass? Scratches? Borosilicate? Coated glass? Diamond? Sandblasted glass? Can it all be added to one wonderful shader? I suspect you are the man for the job! Great stuff.

Hey there! I'm really glad you enjoyed the content :) It can get very advanced, but fact of the matter is that you would always try to make the last complex shader possible The more nodes you add to the shader the harder it gets for your computer to handle and your render times will jump drastically, especially with refraction shaders Of course I could add bubbles and cracks with a shader, but using image textures is more efficient than adding 5-15 nodes for a simple job :D But yes, so far, using the techniques featured on my channel, you should be able to compile them all into one big shader

@@philipkriegelYes. I understand. I think it would be an interesting academic experiment to see if any of the interplay between the various techniques reveals anything new or Interesting. Really enjoy your videos.

There's wouldn't really be anything new The dispersion method works great together with the standard way of getting caustics in Perth tracer engines, you can see the results of it in the video I made for it or on my Instagram if you're interested, but there wouldn't really be anything out of the ordinary, except for a lot of noise and 2 years of render time :D

Hi! And thank you very much for useful and packed tutorials! I have question: in this tutorial your group node for distorted glass has two more inputs below the Normal input which is "Factor" and "Value". I can't guess what are they responcible for. Can you please explain?
@philipkriegel
@philipkriegel 2 жыл бұрын
They are just to reduce the dispersion effect, they don't really bave a practical use except tor showcase, I don't recommend trying to implement the sliders because they just use Performance without giving better results

Wow. This is pretty wild. I wonder if by multiplying the caustic value above one for just some areas you can fake the refractive caustics that are currently missing...?
@philipkriegel
@philipkriegel 2 жыл бұрын
You could add some more detail with that, but you won't get it to work like that Thise are refractive caustics, blender is currently lacking reflective ones I think it'll take a few months and we'll have something semi-close to what you can do with Luxcore, but until then, this will have to hold up You can for instance add noise in your caustics, but that might just blur it, so don't overdo it :)

@@philipkriegel Got you. I had heard people referring to these as "shadow caustics." Got it now. Thanks for the killer tutorials. I appreciate the detail and advanced workflows. We need more of that.

Shadow caustics are a part of refractive caustics. They are the part of the refractive caustics that are occuring in the shadow region of the object only The rest is flyaway caustics and reflective caustics, both of which are hard to simulate with path tracing engines like cycles I'll try my best to keep it up and maybe make additions to this

@@philipkriegel Thanks - I'm just putting it together, I can see this taking effect although I baked in fluid to a vase and that is taking away from the effects. Looking forward to applying to other scenes now
