Lol, to be honest, since making bows is kind of my living, I was curious, but this is... Strange to me, it takes a lot of the closeness with your craft out of the equation. I put 15 years into my craft, this is weird to me.

Hi this construction is genius and you did it very well but the reason why your draw weight is so weak is because the limbs are supposed to be straight towards the riser and bend forward towards the tip so when the string is attached it pulls it back in to a recurve giving it more strength but what you did is you already put the recurve in when you moulded it.hope this helps
@IDEAforWOOD7 жыл бұрын
You right. Next time I will care more about right curve of limbs.
@gandalf11247 жыл бұрын
The reason for the week draw is because of the choise of wood. Beech is properly one of the worst choices because of it short fibres. Ash whould have been better. Best choich is Taxus baccata, or European yew.
@jarodmorris6117 жыл бұрын
or osage orange. It's more to do with the curve than the choice of wood.
@gandalf11247 жыл бұрын
No. The curve does not begin to matter untill you use the right wood, and then the curve has to the match the tension of the wood.
@5hredder6 жыл бұрын
you are right, it shouldnt have as much curve; however, the guy in the demo was also not pulling the bow back very far. i would say that the limbs were poorly constructed from an engineering standpoint, but very well made in regards to craftsmanship.

the brace height seems to large. A longer string is needed, and if you can't go any longer, then new arms with more recurve would be necessary.
@elindred7 жыл бұрын
yeah, the draw weight seems very low, and the string needs to be made of something of high strength with little to no stretch. The actual construction method looks perfectly sound.

Read below the title, he tells what the bow is made from. "Simple bow for fun. Handle is made from ash. Limb are made from beech." And for the record, it's not a handle, it's called a riser.

Looks like the draw weight is really light 15-25 pounds, Seems like a childs bow. Trying to mimic the Samick Sage Recurve model bow. Except the limbs on that are much thicker and use materials to increase the draw weight. It's not even legal to hunt with. Although it could take out small game. Doubt you can get close enough to hit anything with how quickly that arrow dropped.

Limbs too thick, they dont even bend in the shooting process. String is probably way too small and built to be put on the bow without stringing it (ie the wood rests in the recurve shape and is not bent into that shape by the string). Id say look into how other recurves make limbs, or try to see if a pair of Samick limbs could fit on the rizer. Either way this is a cool prototype, but it needs better wood and lots of revisions to be considered viable for wooden bows.

The geometry of the limbs are wrong i think, You have way way to much brace height. should be like 6 to 7 inchs. sometimes 8. iv never seen a recuve with that much before and shoot well.
