2 options on how to make Bushes or Shafts the Exact same length on your Manual Lathe.
Definitely comes in handy when you need multiple parts the same Height or Length 👍

For longer runs with chamfers make a double tool like this one on my channel - Unique double tool for accelerated production of chamfered spacers.

I have soft jaws that are good for when working on things that are more disc like than cylinder like or for when working on soft alloys that I don't want to mark. Some people will say use a soft material between the jaws and the part but for accuracy you sometimes need a 4 jaw chuck and as soon as you start adjusting it you run the risk of scratches. For a back stop similar to yours I have through bore spindle collets and a draw tube. By with minimal tidying up the shank and rounding and facing off the head of a M16 bolt I have a tool that can be fitted into one of my collets and the chuck can hold the part when it is pushed against the stop held in the collet. So a similar principle to your fixed stop. I do have space to the left of my lathe because you would not be able to fit and remove the draw tube without it.

A positive of making KZfaq videos is getting other people interested in the conversation. I look at my videos as a forum. Rather than trying to give all the right answers. Other people watching can share their ideas. And people reading the comments can get another perspective on how to approach the task. It would be great if the conversation between other people watching could be more interactive. I did try Live Videos some time ago to get my Forum idea going. But, it never really seemed to take off, especially with people living in different time zones. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I hope to see you more often in the comments section 🙂👍

Another way to make repeatable custom length parts is to use a small 3d printed jig, like in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m8VooNObs7fPhaM.htmlfeature=shared&t=265 (and also at 5:20 - different types) It might not be micron-accurate, but if you need repeatability and you're fine with 0.1-0.2mm accuracy - then this might be just the thing.
