Right now, there are people all over the world who are just like you. They're either lonely, they're missing somebody, they're depressed, they're hurt, they're scarred from the past, they're having personal issues no one knows about, they have secrets you wouldn't believe. They wish, they dream and they hope. And right now, they are sitting here reading these words, and I'm writing this for you so you dont feel alone anymore. Always remember, don't be depressed about the past, don't worry about the future, and just focus on today. If today's not so great don't worry! Tomorrow's a new chance. If you are reading this, be sure to share this around to make others feel better. Have a nice day! :) )

Thank youuuuuuuuu!!! I've been lately stressing about buying an espresso scale which is quite unaffordable. However, I can not give up on dosing by weight, so I bought a cheap jewelry scale with 0.1g precision (cuz even a variation of 0.5g makes a lot of difference in terms of taste), and then I use the grind size and stopwatch to calculate the yield out( i.e if for a particular grind size, the extraction time is within 25-30 sec). It really works well for me. BUT PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THE SCALE COMPLETELY !!!

Go onto Amazon and search for coffee scale. You'll find perfectly usable scales for between $10US to $20. Of course you could spend way more but the cheepos work perfectly well. Make your life simpler not harder.

@@ishantsingh3366 Oh spare me your third world faux outrage. We're talking espresso here not boiling tea leaves over an open fire for chai. Go on Alieexpress and order them for ten bucks or whatever the rupee equivalent is. I'm sure they can find a way to deliver them to wherever you live.

@@PaulLemars01 totally unnecessary. While your comment was probably meant for good, in truth not every has access to what you suggested. There are many that don't have access to Amazon, my parents are such an example, getting all the stuff US amazon has is not always possible elsewhere in the rest of the world. Your assumption lacked understanding about culture, age access, demographic access, finances and the greater world.

@@beautifully_wonderfullymade dont you have access to shops that sell cheap (usually chinese) crap? They usually have scales that can measure to 0.1g precision. Of course they are not good as some expensive options, but they're good enough. Another option is aliexpress

The guitar!! That made me laugh. So I have no scale, my method is to fill it till the basket can’t take anymore, then tamp it. It however is not that consistent so I ordered scales a few days ago. Will admit getting a hario v60 did nudge me towards a scale as well.

Let me cut to the chase. How to make consistently tasty espresso without scales? As this video proves, just don't. Always use scales, it's way easier. You can buy a set of 0.1g coffee scales from Amazon for $10-$20 and they work perfectly. I even bought a set of $90 Brewista off Amazon just because I thought I was missing something, but nope the $10 generics worked just as well. Needless to say, the Brewista went back. And don't get me started on $200+ Acaia scales your waving around. Making consistent espresso is easy. Single dose grind 18g of beans into a portafilter (or dosing cup), tamp with a $20 spring loaded tamper, pull a 36g shot into a shot glass by having the scale under the glass and serve.

@@matt_arnold Sorry, it took me a while to remember to note the time. It takes around 28 seconds for me to pull a shot. Now for that information to make sense, I'm using the latest 2021 Gaggia Classic )Pro. I'm using an 18g VST Precision filter basket and I've modded the OPV with a Mr Shades 9 Bar spring to reduce the pressure to Hoffman recommended pressure levels since the stock Gaggia OPV is somewhat overpressured and yes, it makes a significant change in quality of the shot. I grind with a Eureka Mignon Knotte grinder that I've modded to do single dose grinding. This is all definitely not top of the line equipment but it works for me. I measure 18g of beans into a dosing cup. Transfer the beans to the grinder hopper with one tiny spritz of water to stop static clumping. Grind back into the dosing cup and re-weigh to confirm the grinder has released the whole shot (it always does). Stir the cup and invert the portafilter over the dose cup and flip. Level and tamp and then pull the shot. Wait for the scale to get to 34g and stop the shot. Last bit of run gets shot to around 36 to 38g. Using measured dosing means you are completely consistent every shot. This sounds complicated but it's just the opposite, this is really quick to do and it's the exact opposite of what most professional Baristas do. They don't have time to screw around with high precision shots because Karen is on the other side of the counter screaming for her double mocha latte. Sorry this reply has gone on but being a coffee nerd has its price. I'm installing a PID in the Gaggia in the next week or so. Like I said, nerd.
