In this video, we will show you how to make a DIY Plug-In-Mount in order to install floodlight, security video cameras or just about anything else such requiring a plug to be inserted into a socket or electrical power outlet without having to hardwire or add additional junction box requiring time-consuming and extensive undertakings. The do-it-yourself hack is not too difficult, fairly easy and only requires a few items such as round weather-proof junction box, outdoor extension cord, non-metallic liquid tight cord connector, winged twist connector and a few more inexpensive items. The reason you might have to do this is because most of the outdoor floodlights on the market require direct wiring into the junction box. So you cannot simply plug it into an electrical receptacle or an outdoor outlet. What if there is no junction box that you can tap in nearby? Most likely you will have to pay an electrician to install piping or conduit in order to add the junction box outside on the exterior of your house or garage.

Using this method, you can add new, replace existing or install any electrical device or fixtures and able to plug them into electrical outlet. Even if there is no outlet nearby, you can always run an extension cord, especially if it is temporary. If you are doing it indoor then there is no need to be watertight. But if you're doing this outdoor, everything must be weatherproof.
On caveat, if you're trying to install the Ring Floodlight cam (model # 2210C-XYZ) with a 5" base and you need a junction box for it, you'll discover that round junction boxes with 5" diameters are very difficult to find. The large majority of them are 4". You can buy Grainger Surface mount wiring box, 5", White (model # 14G265) or you can do what we did, which was using a 4" cover but mounting it backward, and drilling a hole in the middle for the bolt.
The reason we're doing this is because we wanted to install Amico Smart LED Motion Sensor Outdoor Lights (40W Flood Lights Work with Alexa/Google Home, 4000LM Security Lights, 2700-6500K, IP65 Waterproof, App Controlled WiFi Flood Light for Garage, Yard) but we didn't want to install or add a permanent junction box outside the house. We already have an exterior outlet nearby and we figure it would be faster and easier to plug it in into an outlet.
