I live near a stream with crystal clear water .Can I tie drift wood to a piece of rope and leave it in the water for a few days. And then put it into my aquarium?

Actually this white layer is carbohydrates...its common in new driftwood..but you should change water and this is not harmful for fishes in majority cases.

@@zayankonilakath3513 Its simply mean. Your driftwood is not ready to use. Boil your driftwood 2 to 3 hour Than put your wood into clear and clean water and see, if water still become yellowish Then repeat this procedure...2 to 3 times Yes it can harm your fish.

Driftwood lower the ph level of water . So it may be harmful for some fishes.
