I have lost the Plot 🤣 I have been producing on Korg Caget for two years. I now have got myself a laptop and am looking into choosing Reason 11 for my next venture. Watching this perplexes me. I don’t think I have even scratched the surface with production after watching you produce.

Shady Lou these tips are transferrable cross plugins and cross daws, the reason i used the plugins i used is because its what i am fastest with, and with other plugins it may have taken me considerably longer to show the result i was wanting to You can do very similar stuff in europa Ty for your feedback though, next vid will include more reason native plugs

Thank you so much, Alex! Your explaining is great, don't have any problems with that. (Of course some previous knowledge is necessary, this isn't a beginner tutorial) Opening up the gates to your insight is extraordinary for someone who is eager to learn. I ve learned a lot from this video and I hope you ll release more tutorials! I, personally, don't use reason and ,by the looks of things, there s a lot of intricacies and nuances that can be really confusing for a newcomer to the DAW (the layout has a lot of depth to it), however, the information you present translates to any DAW and I find it very useful

Na all you got to do is the basic stuff and play around with it. I could get the exact same DnB sound 10 years ago when there was no visual display. All you need to instantly get punchy DnB Beat sounds in put a Scream 4 on a Redrum and use hi and low pass filter on it and a reverb. That's it nothing more needed.

I think you did great! We are always our own worst critic. Just like with anything else, there is always room for improvement. Keep in mind, like you have already learned with the music, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. The more you "DO" the better you will get. Just have to relate what you have learned in music to editing because essentially it is the same thing. Everything is related, just find/create the relation and let your creativity flow. Keep up the outstanding work!

hey man, do you plan on making more tutorials? New Horizon has been my favorite drum and bass song since I started RL one day and heard it. It's incredible. There's so much going on it's hard to grasp but I'd absolutely kill to hear any tips on how you fill out the top end during the drum n bass, it sounds like there's some delayed noise or something bouncing around. And the bass patch is gnarly - is it the same patch automated around throughout that track (as in once the drop hits)?

When layering acoustic drums with synth ones u should always reduce the transient of one vs the other? Cant you make the transients of both work just by proper layering (and with patience and time xd) testing predelays before 1 sample hits or whatever? And if you have to choose the transient that gets reduced It would be the acoustic one? I've find that some acoustic drums have really good transients. Thanks in advance and for this awesome video, keep It Up!!
@TheOfficialProtostar
@TheOfficialProtostar 6 жыл бұрын
Sarenix Bentz usually its pretty tough to get both transients to overlap properly, and you will always end up with phase issues on the transient, either making it weaker or a bit stronger Usually the snare will sound like its flamming and the transient wont be clean enough, which isnt too desirable
@Nonkem
@Nonkem 6 жыл бұрын
Oh ok gottcha I was thinking exactly about that may cause flamming but wondered if u get surgical about it u may solve it but i guess is not worth it. Btw nice sub bass trick !

So you have two notes playing as one or create the phase oscillation? Doesn't putting two bass notes one tone apart play havoc with tuning? I mean it sounds good here but it's not something that ever would have occurred to me...
@TheOfficialProtostar
@TheOfficialProtostar 6 жыл бұрын
You play 2 semitones apart so the note will result inbetween. Its just as if you took 2 oscillators and detuned one -100 cents and one +100. The benefit of using the method i showed instead of that is that you get to use both a sine wave, and a triangle wave, instead of just one or the other. Also you get the benefit of some phasing added by 2 noise oscillators playing together, which helps create a washy top end
@YerNan
@YerNan 6 жыл бұрын
thanks man, yep i thought a bit more about this and did some experiments last night and it clicked as to why it makes sense. Keep up with these tutorials, they're super informative. big up!

YerNan you dont get the extra phasing created by 2 noise oscs playing :) you can do it by detuning 2 oscs but then you also dont get to layer a sine AND a triangle, only 2 sines or 2 triangles.

Why aren't you working in blocks mode? It's ideal for this kind of stuff. Also, you don't have to nudge the attack automation few milliseconds before the snare (around 5:07) because Reason - and any DAW - will first process any automation and adjust the parameters before moving to triggering sound.
@TheOfficialProtostar
@TheOfficialProtostar 6 жыл бұрын
Artur Godlewski I dont work in blocks mode because i prefer to work in regular sequencing mode. Everyone produces in ways that they are comfortable with, this is mine And if youve played with this specific automation then you will know that this isnt true, as sometimes the transient will slip through if you leave it exactly on beat, feel free to try for yourself :)
@TheOfficialProtostar
@TheOfficialProtostar 6 жыл бұрын
Also if you cant or are too lazy to try for yourself, here is what the drums sound like with the automation on beat. As you can hear, the transients are still pushing through :) At the end of the recording, thats what it sounds like with CORRECT automation, like ive shown in the video. www.dropbox.com/s/sgrtu0ekx0hjwbk/dnb%20tutorial%20with%20automation%20on%20beat.wav?dl=0

suryadnb its just a patch i made for the sidechain reaction rack extension in the reason store, if you want the patch you can get that RE and its in the signature patches folder :) And i didnt say i would cover every single minute detail, you can clearly hear me say we are going to be covering SOME drum production and SOME bass production, not sure where you got that from. theres only so much time i have for a video. It would have ended up being closer to an hour long.

WHY ARE YOU USING SERUM AND NOT EUROPA? I follow your video and it's very good but i'm just wondering why make Reason 10 tutorial if you're not even gonna represent Reason 10? VST's are great but what about proprietary tips and tricks? I came here for reason 10 ! lol .. also Thumbs ^ up to your video it's good content.
@TheOfficialProtostar
@TheOfficialProtostar 5 жыл бұрын
As much as i love europa, it is missing a few key features that allows me to make a similar calibre noise bass in it. Namely i cannot edit the wavetable manually, which is huge for a bass of this type. Its just down to how i specifically made this bass, it need s a lot of control at the basic level, which europa falls slightly short on, but its still a great sounding synth
@danielrhoads8676
@danielrhoads8676 5 жыл бұрын
Awesome reply! again, i enjoyed the content you shared in this video and i subscribed to your channel as a result! Anyway, I just bought reason 10 about a month ago... but i have been a Reason DAW user since Reason version 3.0 so i've come a long way. And I also noticed that Europa has limitations when it comes to "EDITING PARAMETERS" which as well discouraged me when creating a specific sounds. At the same time I tried to to use the loss of editing as just the flow of the instrument itself. So ya, again, great content, Where are you currently in terms of music inspiration? I'm a DnB bass junkie and after discovering your reason tutorial i'm just curios what inspires you as a fellow musician 2018 Sept 22
