Hello everyone! Here's the long awaited enamel pins tutorial - I get a lot of questions about how I make my pins, so here's how I do it & lots of tips for making sure they come out great!

I just instantly wanted to start off with 1.75 with 7+ colours and screen printing because it fit my design and honestly it was the right decision. They look beautiful and I'm glad I was confident with that. I forgot to put my name on the engraving and the backing card but marker can solve that for now

you can actually make homemade enamel pins, however it does take a lot more time. one method is acid etching with something like ferric chloride or a muriatic acid / hydrogen peroxide mix and then hand painting and soldering the pin tack

I kinda jumped right into wanting to design pins n there’s so many things to consider that I would have never thought of. Also design wise what do u do differently for patches? When creating a pin design do u create the image as high resolution as u can n then put together a order info sheet? Im tryin to figure out the entire process

Do you use a digital Pantone book so you can give the correct colours? Or do you own one. Because they’re not quite affordable.. or do you think a hex-tone/hex is good enough?

Any tips for someone just looking to order 3-5 pins? I've been dying to grab some custom ones of my characters for my friends and I, but every manufacturer I find either has a minimum quantity or a minimum charge that's out of my price range. Is buying on a small scale a viable option or do I just need to make pins from scratch? If it helps I've been wanting to make about 5-10 different designs and purchase around 4 of each. One for me, one for my friend, and two extras incase the first ones break or go missing. Thanks in advance!

The mould process is so expensive for manus so I doubt you can get an affordable rate for less than 10qty. I think your best best bet would be to get acrylic pins made

I just send a .jpg since I've had good results with them vectorizing everything themselves! Some artists send vector files or illustrator files to have complete control over the lines.

I used to use Mixam print until their prices kept rising, so now I use a local Canadian printer called The Printing House! I also sometimes print from home.

Some people like to vectorize their designs but I just send them the JPG, personally! It might depend on the manufacturer.

If you have a pin reprinted at a later date, do they charge you for the mold again?

That's a good question! They hold onto your mold for a while so you shouldn't be charged if you order within a certain time frame

The maxpack brushes are my favourite! There's tons to choose from and they all feel great to paint with.

I don't think so since it's hard to get around the mold charge! You could try to slowly build an audience and sell stickers/prints for now until you have enough eyes for pins. Some artists also do kickstarter drops and get a lot of new eyes on their products that way (like pins, plushies, books, etc!). Stickers are easy to start with since you just need a colour printer, sticker paper, and scissors!

Yeah, the problem is that they have to make a custom mold of your design, which is an expensive process.
