Composting Chickens - Using Chickens To Make Compost - Compost Chicken Manure, Deep Litter Method Chickens, Compost Chickens, Permaculture Chickens, Composting with chickens
Our backyard chickens can produce a ton bag of chicken compost every six to eight weeks, in this episode we demonstrate the method of harvesting chicken compost. Composting using chickens and using the deep litter composting method you can pasively create a large amount of chicken compost. Rotary soil sieve
The organic matter mixed with chicken manure creates a nutritious mix to create fertile soil. Unlike in the US it is illegal to feed kitchen scraps to chickens in the UK #Permaculture #compost

G’day mate just found your channel. I recently got 12 chooks I live in suburbia but am starting my urban farm. Just wondering mate, why on earth can you not feed your kitchen scraps to the chooks in the UK.? This seems absurd to me.

It came about after the 2001 Foot and Mouth outbreak in the UK and Europe. The EU then clamped down on it. Whether that's changed or will change now we're no longer part of the EU I don't know, but it seems that the UK had changed very little of what came about due to draconian EU rules/laws so I won't hold my breath!

Great lesson on composting. We are in the US in a rural area with free range chickens. We often put grass clippings into their pen, but they are only in there a short while in early morning as we let them out to roam around during the day. My poor husband has been trying to make compost by putting it in a pile and turning it himself. I'm going to send him the link to this so he can see how to let the chickens do a good bit of the work.
@MyFamilyGarden

We have a lot of foxes so the chickens are only allowed out when we're out. I do have the conventional compost pile but that's to handle the overflow, one of my jobs this year is to redesign the system to make it easier to work

@@MyFamilyGarden Luckily, the foxes never bother the chickens here as there are plenty of wildlife, however, coyotes can be a problem. We had to put a top on the run to keep them and the raccoons out.

I'm an avid composter with a large garden & I came across this vid a few months back & gave it a go. I'm a total convert to this method, it works a treat. I have several "open cast compostings" going on around my veg plot some I've used already with success. I use a lot of wood chippings from cuttings, cardboard, weeds, grass etc & leave it a day or so to burn off any seeds & turn it when the mood takes. I'd highly recommend your method for any size of garden.

thanks so much, i use a few composting techniques so i get a good balance of macro and micro nutirents. The good thing about this method is the woody material which is being composted contains most of the nutrients needed especially once brokedn down. Ma'sha'Allah brother, doing a wonderful job there, I wish I could do all that too and keep chicken's but to do all that needs a Garden like yours Ma'sha'Allah nice spacious Garden, here in west yorkshire there ain't many semi houses with big gardens and then you get terraced houses with even smaller garden's but still we have to be thankful to Allah subhanahu wa'ta'aala with everything

Have you thought about using a hotbed, it's something i use to extend the growing season, i think it would work perfest in a hoophouse. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qKmqgpCav83HcnU.html

That's brilliant, my girls are abit toffee nosed they don't touch any vegetation growing in the garden (which is great for all my flowers), the only thing they eat from the garden is the grass, and funny enough didn't even touch the grass scrapings I gave them. Looked at it and walked off....oops
