I've just come across your channel and thought I'd share an idea with you. I used two cardboard surrounds used in picture framing and made a frame sticking my rice paper picture between the two. When completely dry I used acrylic spray varnish over the whole thing and hung it in my window as a sun catcher. With the sun coming through that 'picture' it looks beautiful. Hope you give it a try. Xx

To stop the shine on the back you could hang it on them skirt hangers, I make silk flowers and I have to stiffen my silk with polyvinyl alcohol basically pure pva once the crystals have been melted down with water it's a clear liquid. I hang my silk that way then it can be ironed afterwards. I've also stiffened coffee filters the same way and hung them on my washing line. It stops the shine by hanging it up. I have my daughters save all there bra and knickers hangers with clips on too haha. Just thought you might want to try it. I love the video by the way I will definitely try this and maybe make a napkin flower who knows.

Lol--I too tried other things (wax paper, parchment--NO good at all...🤬for sure. I had the best luck with plastic shopping bags with the handles and bottoms cut off) Just curious--why go through the extra step of making rice paper only to glue it on a backing--why not just Mod-Podge the napkin to the index card or tag? Which turned out beautifully--love the black and ivory and of course--the gorgeous dragonfly napkin/rice paper...

Hi!! I too just happened to stumble upon your channel. Loved watching your video. I really like the fact that you respond to all comments left. Thank you for making this informative video. :) I edited this comment to add to the few who made comments on why not just glue onto your tags or papers and skip doing this sheet the way shown here in your video. I have my answer to that question.... If any of you are like me, you have days you aren't so thrilled with taking on a new journal, or working on an existing one. Maybe your Mojo isn't right one day, or maybe you just need a break from working on a more involved project. But, just creating something that is just start to finish in a short period time is just what you need to get your creativity back. Yet, your not totally away from creating. :)

Hi, just stumbled upon your channel. Thanks for showing how simple this is. I love what you made out of the napkins. Do you think freezer paper might work? It is far stronger than wax paper. It is only shiny on one side, but you would only need the one side. I might try it to see. Thanks for sharing this tut!

I have used freezer paper. It works! As I recall, I returned to plastic because it gave a higher shine on the back and seemed a little stronger. Also, when I used mod podge I got a better result than glue and water. I'm going to try both ways again to see if I get the same results.

I was wondering if the outside surface of a dried cat food bag would work? It seems semi slick/shiny/cellophan-y (one brand does anyway). I'm drying my first attempt at faux rice paper on a flattened out plastic shopping bag (reusable but the disposable kind) and I think it's going to be interesting to get the dry paper off later lol. It may end up lined with plastic bag. Waiting on someone to finish off their cereal so I can nabble off with the bag...(before they suddenly decide to be neat and tidy and throw the empty out, which would be a FIRST but always happens when you want to keep something, right?) I may try using an empty potato chip bag on a small page (other way round, really) because they look kind of slick too.
@DragonflyerStudio2 жыл бұрын
I have used a plastic grocery bag...it produced more of a wrinkle effect on the finished product...curious about cat food bag though. Good luck in your endeavors, thank you for watching!!
@Kayenne542 жыл бұрын
@@DragonflyerStudio Found out from another youTuber that if you take your brush, and gently roll a tiny bit of all the edges of the damp napkin, you'll be able to easily lift it off when dry. Just kind of gently nudging around all the edges with a fresh application of glue on the brush. Had a bit of trouble with my first effort because the actual glue hung over on all the edges and it was harder to get under. So tucking the edges with the brush and more glue so they were slightly rolled/raised really helped later when dry.

Did I miss something? How do you get it on to the Manila postcards and index cards?
@DragonflyerStudio2 жыл бұрын
Once it's dry, you can just glue it on to whatever surface you choose. I use a glue stick to adhere the rice paper to my cards.
@jazz9015 ай бұрын
Interestng. That was my same question above. Can you see the glue thru the rice paper and did it eventually warp the tag since the glue and water mixture has water? When I've tried to adhere my rice paper to something, it's a litle tricky. I was thinking of usig double sided tape. Any feedback? @@DragonflyerStudio

Can you use tissue paper
@jazz9015 ай бұрын
Yes, and it seems to be a little stronger than napkins. I first used Xmas tissue paper with snowflakes. Looked great. Just make sure your tissue paper has a lot of white area or intentionally use white tissue wrapping paper and stencil something on it and add the same materials you use on your regular rice paper. When making rice paper tomorrow, I'm going to try first ply sheet and add stencil and some texture, then apply glue, then put down a second ply sheet with the shadow tissue from the napkin and maybe add a few more things like glitter or more dried tea, then apply more glue mixture and finally add the top napkin. Have you tried that? Hope I'm not wasting my time.
