I cannot tell you how much I absolutely LOVE you for uploading this method! 💖 I was really depressed since my budged doesn't allow for buying ferns and most look really too out of place anyway in a diorama since they are from thick material. It's depressing since I really adore ferns and the areas of nature that sport them so frequently. So, THANK YOU SO MUCH for showing me a way that does make it possible without costing lots of money and without them looking weird! 🥰 This makes one of my projects crawl all the way to the top of my to-do list now. I'm looking forward to using this method~. ^^

Tnx. I chose from what was at hand. Stationery PVA was not suitable, but carpentry PVA turned out to be what was needed. You need enough plaster so that the resulting product does not sag. If you add too much, the vegetation will become too fragile.

Wow, I'm so glad I saw this before i went to figure it out myself - I was going to try to print and cut paper and thicken it with UV resin, but this is a cut above! Would you say that this is about a 1:1:1 by volume paint:PVA:plaster? Im a carpenter when Im not making models, and that doesnt look like carpentry glue - which is typically yellow. What brand did you use, out of interest. Thank you so much for sharing...!
@baronvonclay
@baronvonclay 7 ай бұрын
Henkel super PVA glue. The ratio is not 1:1:1. This will make it too fragile. I always make an approximate mixture based on the overall viscosity. The point is simple. The more glue, the stronger it is. The more paint, the more flexible (the main thing is to give the desired color, it changes a little when it dries). The more plaster, the better it retains its shape (does not sag), but it can become brittle. It also loses its gloss from plaster. It all depends on what I want to do. I recommend using a silicone mat, it’s more comfortable.

Two questions (1) Where can you get gypsum and why is it needed? (2) How long do you let the pain dry before you pull it off the plastic?
@baronvonclay

1. I buy plaster at a hobby market. Gypsum allows the dried paint and glue to retain its shape. But it also makes her fragile. Therefore, find a ratio that is convenient for you. 2. Let it dry for 24 hours. You can remove it after 2-3 hours, but it is better to let it dry completely.

One question, I'm using matte acrylic paint, PVA glue and Gesso, but it's getting a little thick, not to mention the wire keeps coming loose and moving, do you secure the wire with tape? Do you add a little water to dilute it? I can't do it, is there an ideal proportion of paint/glue and gypsum? Anyway, thank you very much for the tip, I'll try more often!
@baronvonclay
@baronvonclay 3 ай бұрын
The proportions depend on what I want to achieve. There should be more glue. Plaster is needed to hold the shape. Without the plaster, the leaves will droop. Sometimes this is useful, then I add a little plaster. If you add a lot of gypsum, the leaves will become brittle. If the mixture is too thick, add water. But not too liquid. The wire must be painted in advance, this way the mixture sticks better. Good luck with your experiments.
@ricardotraldifonseca9368
@ricardotraldifonseca9368 3 ай бұрын
@@baronvonclay Looking at your video, the paint has a certain fluidity when you paint, it looks like it's at the point of milk, almost dripping from the tip of the brush, this looks like water added to the mixture you used in the video, because if I mix just paint, glue and plaster doesn't have that consistency. I can't find this consistency, viscosity, fluidity of the paint on the brush. But I'll test it a few more times, thanks
@baronvonclay
@baronvonclay 3 ай бұрын
The consistency is still thicker than milk, but I added water. As for the wire, I didn’t fasten it, I’m used to painting it carefully. The liquid consistency will help with this. But sometimes I make a couple of leaves at different ends of the wire, and when they dry, I make the remaining leaves. I will release another video in the summer improving this method.

@@baronvonclay - Ahhh! That makes sense due to the glue having water in it. What type of acrylic do you use? Just cheap poster paint?

I hope I don't die soon😁 I have never done dioramas before. Just sculpted. I do everything with an eye on others. If I discovered something new, I immediately share this method of creating vegetation. I didn’t like how finished plants from various companies looked, so I had to look for my own way for a long time. So this method was discovered with PVA, paint and plaster. Nothing new, I can not give you yet. Everything is on youtube.
