How to Make Harley Quinn Mallet EVA Foam Cosplay Tutorial Part 1

This time I am putting my spin on an iconic cosplay piece Harley Quinn's mallet. This is a 2 part series and in this part 1 video I go a over all of the foam fabrication techniques that it took to bring this hammer to life. Including some awesome wood textures and a 2mm foam "leather" wrapped handle. I think Harley would be proud of this prop it could go right on the wall in the Joker's lair.

I know this video is 2 years old, but I am brand new to the foam crafting community so I've been devouring all of your videos because they are a treasure trove of so many pro level tips and techniques that can take a cosplay or prop to the next level. In case it has not been said before, can I just say that you are an artist. Watching you work is a beautiful experience.

Of course the biggest thing I've learned from your videos is that the paint job will absolutely make or break a prop, and again thanks so much for being so helpful and informative on your pai ting techniques. I really like this. I look at it though and realize i love it even more not as iteration of Harley's mallet but as a Warmallet for a fantasy cosplay weapon. Very well done. Love the techniques you showed. The 2mm stitch technique is so simple but effective process.

An interesting prop-making tip I learned a long time ago if you have to use rivets for something just use a googly eyes

Been a fan of your work for a while! Saw you at Maker Faire KC one year (2016?) with your masks. I think you were working on some leather shoulder armor. You and Butthead Studios were my faves! Very Nice. Impressive wood texture. Why do you switch glue types back and forth?

CydartaDesign I almost always use a double adhesive method. Contact cement works great for large sections or heavy wear areas super glue is great for smaller pieces.

do you sketch out your builds first or just eyeball as you go?

Depends on the build but I usually will sketch out or make a simple template to start Then refine that drawing throughout the build process. The video I'm publishing tomorrow I made a fast mock up in about 20 minutes as proof of concept then created the final version for the video

How did you develop your own foam?

I Found a manufacturing company that allowed me to select and taylor the shore hardness, density, and color that I wanted for my product. Most foam products you see from other vendors are not developed they just found some foam and put a cosplay sticker on it.

All of my products are now sold and distributed through Blick Art Materials bit.ly/2NECyrU I know that they can ship worldwide but you would need to contact them for costs.

Not yet. Currently my products are sold exclusively through Blick Art Materials which does ship overseas but it's probably expensive you'd have to check with them.
