🚨🚨DISCLAIMER:
This is not a promotional video. I am NOT recommending any specific type or brand of seamoss. USE A SEAMOSS OF YOUR CHOICE. At the time I did the video I only had access to this brand for demonstration purposes 😁 I get my seamoss straight from Jamaica or from / akeempierre
- The rinsing is essential for getting rid of the excess salt and sand from THIS BRAND. Do not skip that step. You may get WILDCRAFTED seamoss you like from other suppliers.
- Isinglass is pronounced like ICING but you may hear various pronounciations when talking to West Indians like 'Izzing' or 'Eye-Zeng'
- Irish Moss is pronounced Irish Moss but you will often hear a Jamaican say Irish 'MOSH'
- Even though the Irish moss is just one ingredient in the punch, the whole drink is often referred to as Irish moss by Jamaicans.
-Peanut, flaxseed and oats add texture to this drink. While you drink you may taste the tiny bits of these ingredients. If you prefer to have it extremely smooth you may do one or two of the following:
1. Soak rolled oats and peanuts overnight in a little water
2. Use instant oats
3. Use less flaxseed, less oats and less peanuts
-This punch WILL get THICKER in the fridge. If you use chilled ingredients or serve over ice you won't have to refrigerate. If you DO want to refrigerate it then increase the evaporated milk and coconut milk amount or use less oats.
-Isinglass (not vegan...actually from fish) is not something I use when making regular plain seamoss gel. I am only adding the Isinglass to thicken the punch.
- The cinnamon stick is removed after 30 minutes
- To make the punch thinner add more evaporated milk or coconut milk. To make it thicker add oats
- The popular brand of Irish moss drink bought in the store has oil among other things added to it, so bear in mind that the consistency and taste will not be the exact same as homemade.
Storage: You can refrigerate the gel for about 2 - 3 weeks. However I refrigerate for no more than 1 week and Freeze it for about 3 - 4 months
.
.
.
Recipe Ingredients for the punch:
About 1/4 cup or more Seamoss gel
1/4 cup soaked flaxseed(along with the liquid)
1 can unsweetened evaporated milk (You could use Supligen or Nutrament)
1/4 - 1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
Pinch or 2 of Allspice
1/2 - 1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsps or more Vanilla
Dragon stout or Guiness to taste(optional)
White rum (optional)
1/4 cup oats (use instant oats for smoother consistency)
2 heaped tbsps unsalted roasted peanut (add extra if you want a strong peanut flavour) You may use raw peanuts or peanut with the red skin intact
1/4 cup Coconut milk
sweetened condensed milk to taste
1/4 tsp salt (trust me on this the salt just helps to enhance the flavour. It is not noticeable)

I would love mine heated as a child. My aunt ( who made it) would always tell me it was for men. I never understood that at the time of course. I would say "but I want to be strong too" LOL. Thanks for the sweet memory!

@@JerenesEats Lol, actually, my aunt would have it with her friends in a glass w/ice and, unbeknownst to me, they would put liquor in their glasses. One day, I snuck a sip of my aunt's glass LOL. I don't remember what I thought about the taste at the time, but I don't think I cared for it too much, but when I got home, and my mother would heat it up after taking it out of the refrigerator to give some to my father, she would give me a small cup of it and that's what I fell in love with. It was never thick like porridge, but it was delicious none the less. When I make it (or my version of it) today, I just combine the meat and water from a couple of young Thai coconuts, add my sea moss, vanilla, and a pinch of ceylon cinnamon, and I can recreate that same feeling from way back when. Thanks again for this video!

CORRECT! If you notice, I said both at 6:54 I said both pronounciations so that viewers from different backgrounds could know what I'm talking about. The correct pronounciation is 'ICZING' but some yardies say 'ISING' when you purchase it in the West Indian stores. Just like Irish Moss where we know the correct pronounciation but many of us in Jamaica called it Irish 'MOSH' for all our life 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Don't you kill all the nutrients by boiling it at such high heat?? Seen another video where they explained that..

Which is why...both methods were mentioned in the video. Some folks like to use it raw and some folks like to boil it and drink the liquid it is boiled in.

Love the video. Delicious drink… that’s actually pond sea moss, naturally grown sea moss does not have salt. Sea moss should not have salt on it
@JerenesEats

Real seamoss does have salt but isn't excessively salty. Regarding the type of moss used in the video...this is why I left info in the description box so that viewers may use whatever moss they like and then follow the steps to make the drink.

@@JerenesEats oh I feel you. Thx for responding so sooon. Well I only plan on using it to drink and I use flaxseed in my hair anyway so I will do them together. Btw ur vid is very informative. I never realize flaxseed is the same linseed my pops gave me as a child. P.s I hated it haha. But I will try it again.
