Absolutely love kokedamas. With some farns u can make them look like bonsais (actually kokedamas were originally the bonsais of the poor, as those pretty bonsai pots used to be very expensive) .... my dream is to have an entire hanging garden of kokedamas.

Sheet moss is often preserved with nasties like formaldehyde and can contain dyes so they looks less shitty. You can harvest and propagate your own moss (look to SerpaDesign for his tips) very easily and it will last for years and not kill your plant.

These are awesome, I love the hanging ones! The best way to get the soil off the roots is rinse them under the tap with room temp water, if they roots are healthy you can get them pretty clean this way, it is a good way to check the health of your roots and see if there is any rot you need to cut off first.

Do you have a 99Cent store near you or dollar tree? I usually find most of what I need there and then try to find the things they don't have on sale if I can't tweak it with 99 cent or dollar tree finds and I look for pots and dishes at thrift stores too. Also, find plants outside, or ask a neighbor or friend for cuttings or seeds. If you try you can find ways to make things for free or super cheap! Nothing more satisfying than to create something wonderful for free or next to nothing.

Go into a woods anywhere road side....gather moss or woodsy plants. Go to a dollar store for soil and fishing line boop there you go . Just use your imagination and you will be good to go.
