I for one don't see how you can achieve any kind of decent precision out of a vernier caliper when, I have to use inside micrometers when I get to do this type of work. I have to make to a certain class fit under the DIN classification of fits. There's a reason why micrometers were invented and where was the heat treatment and post heat treatment grinding. As soon as the technician here started putting hand work into the process that was the beginning of the end and no heat treatment; no properly operating chemical blueing finish. I have to agree with John Locke; it's a Trainwreck.

There is nothing precise about this machining. Very crude tooling geometry all wrong. Not a toolmaker for sure but good on you for trying. Be carfull. Only take a second to loose a finger or an arm.
