How to Make Long Reach C-Clamps for Under $10 (Strength Test at the End)

Using a 3 foot piece of 7/16" threaded rod, 6 nuts, 4 washers, drywall screws, wood glue and some scrap plywood I made 2 long reach c-clamps. These clamps are simple to build and very strong.

I'm in the middle of making some of these for my brother and I. I think I might just use some locktite on the nut for the swivel part. I had some old 1/2 inch plywood laying around so I ripped a BUNCH of 2" strips and glued em 3 pieces thick and then glued those together as a bridle joint at the corners. Thanks 4 posting.

Great idea why are there still so many threads showing after you pinned the nut in place? It looked way further out then the what the washer would offset?

Is that a Heisz push stick? I much like your laminated plywood approach, producing good strength with no joinery. I have enough scrap plywood to make 4.

Yes john sent me his push stick so i sent him my skill saw push stick. You can see it in most of his videos mounted above his rigid spindle sander to the right of his miter saw.

Don't need screws tho the glue is stronger than the screws. Matthias wandel proved that and I was shocked myself!

When I was a kid I use to let the cutoffs float next to the blade on the 15hp tablesaw in the shop till one caught the blade and threw a piece of ash threw the wall behind me..if someone or me where there it would of went through them.

I need to get into the sound hole of an acoustic 12 string guitar with spruce top and clamp down a loose bridge. without a "c "clamp no hope you would crush the top using only outside force

Awesome, i wonder what would happen if you put another threaded rod in the middle.. It would be an awesome clamping jig.. Putting pressure on both the edge and the middle.. Saves space and clamps..

Do you have the Mastercraft/Ryobi band saw or did you invest in a proper band saw? Just bought the Mastercraft drill press on saturday on sale for 99$.

Anything under 14" bandsaw is a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. I looked at those 2 and went with a 300 dollar kijiji 14" bandsaw even though it was more than i wanted to spend. It you buy those smaller ones you will soon want to upgrade so better not waste the money in my opinion. I like my mastercraft drill press but it does have certain depth and height limitations.

The nut on the inside takes all the clamp load. If the out side nut does for some strange reason it would just push back out? So I just wanted to know if i missed something?

My professional opinion....smart guys will use 1/2" readi-rod, and coupling nuts for both handle and head. Anvil should have boatbuilders attitude... using endgrain cuts as the anvil face.... could be made as reverseable ... perhaps a round ball, v-groove, or cylinder shape.

$10 ? How much is Bandsaw/tablesaw/jigsaw blades? How much are sanding belts/stickback & DA sanding pads? Hi spd/Router/ Forstner bits? Rags/paint & sundries?

@@DIYBuilds yep it adds up ... been building a 16' (16' x 6' flat bottom 34' hi frt / 24" in bac) boat the last year for a few hundred dollars....Yeah , with a $200 trailer I refurbed ($1000 more) And 1200 /1500 in lumber / $30 a tube boat caulking & adhesives & several hundred SS screws. Prob headin towards 4K ... still need buy good used OB ! ahhh!

Plenty strong but you should have rounded the corners on the inside. I would have just drilled them at that point to have rounded edges. Everyone knows that corners are the start of splitting. Check out the history of the De Havilland Comet passenger airliner.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, rude, etc. but I do have a question as to "why use wood"? scrap tube steel would have made the same sized deep clamps in about 1/2oth the time, stronger and more durable... plus a lot cheaper (is how I did it for my home shop)... Was the entire goal to show how to do it with "only wood"? perhaps since you make a lot of really practical wood tools.
