How to make "Magic Mist", this IS magic for you Acrylic Painting, you will learn how to make your own magic mist, how to use it plus demonstrations on how to blend with Magic Mist, and what brushes are best to use..
Amazing for the Wet on Wet Techniques, My Magic mist recipe will give you that creamy, buttery feel of oils, and extend the drying, time, take out streaks, and blend colors beautifully with ease..
You won't believe how beautiful your painting will turn out, how easy it is to blend the colors, how you can extend your drying time by 10 minutes or more for working with your acrylics, and how slick your paint will slide over your canvas, it will also save you paint because you don't need to use as much..
I will show you how to make "Magic White Mist " so you can lighten your colors, and make them more opaque, as acrylics dry dull and flat,.. and I will show you how to make "Magic Clear Mist " if you rather use a more transparent paint and to leave the color original. .Both Magic Mists will extend the drying time of acrylics, save paint, and blend beautifully and easy..
Using the "Magic White Mist" will also help take out any streaks when you do your backrounds, skies, and any large area that requires blending..

You can experiment with the amounts:
The formula I used for Magic White Mist and Magic Clear Mist is:
1. Equal amounts of Slow Dry Blending Gel Medium, and Liquid Blending Medium, plus Acrylic White paint, fill 1/3 of misting bottle with mixture and the rest water shake..
2. with liquid blending Medium, and White paint, mix , fill to 1/3 of misting bottle the rest water and shake.
3. with Slow Dry Blending Gel medium and White, mix, fill to 1/3 of misting bottle and the rest water and shake.
4. with Slow Dry Blending fluid medium and water for the "Magic Clear Mist"

Another great paint retardant is a mix of 1 part vegetable glycerin and 9 parts water and it costs literally pennies for a large amount and you can tailor it to your needs if you change the amount of glycerin for a longer drying time ☺️

I can't thank you enough! I love your idea of the "Magic Mist" to work with helping delay the drying time. I invested in the new Golden Open acrylics which are NOT as good with blending as they say. (Too sticky) it was frustrating. But, watching your demonstration with the "Magic mist" was a wonderful answer to the blending problem. (Water alone weakened the pigments) Thank you again! You really helped me to keep from tossing my painting and the new paints into the trash!!

Yes, it's called a blending medium. it's recommended especially for beginners (I am one) so the blending time is extended. Thanks for sharing. It's a really good tip.

@@allisonprior Oh, just recently I watched a seasoned painter using it - he placed a little blob of gel on his pallet and now and then would take a bit on his brush. Much like he'd take paint from the pallet. After I watched your video I started looking through my supplies and to my surprise (speaking in rhymes) I found a Liquitex jar of gel which I got many years ago for other purposes. Still in great shape and ready to be used. Which I did immediately, and it was awesome.

Yes, absolutely, When you use Magic clear just leave out the white paint, and mix equal amounts of water and slow dry medium liquid...you can also use less water or more water, experiment with the amounts, just remember to much water will make your paint very transparent like watercolor paint...so I rather equal amounts or less water..I hope that helps..

Can you use slow- dri blending medium and just water or do you just have to add white paint? If you add the white paint will that blend in with your bright colors or will they still hold their brightest? Hope that makes sense.

Thank u for this video. I am new at acrylic painting and the one thing I've learned is the acrylic paint dries really fast. I am looking forward to trying this magic white. Can I use the white acrylic pouring paint when mixing this and does it matter what brand of white paint I use?

You are so welcome Nancy, you can use the acrylic pouring paint it is states it's slow dry, if not then it will dry fast like the acrylic Paint itself..It doesn't matter what brand of white paint or the slow dry blending gels or mediums you use, but in order for this to work, it has to be a slow dry medium or gel, or liquid added to your acrylic paint..Let me know if you have anymore questions...I hope that helped you...

@@allisonprior I appreciate u replying back to my comment. And I'm sorry if I confused u. First of all I was asking about the magic mist not magic white. And also I was wanting to know what kind of white paint that u are using to mix with the slow dry blending fluid medium and slow dry blending gel medium (for example was it just regular white acrylic paint or white acrylic pouring paint)? I didn't know if the white paint that I need to use to mix the magic mist had to be more on the runnier side.

@@nancymeece5110 Thank for reaching out again, I love feedback and I really enjoy communicating with my viewers, with the Magic mist, it has to be almost like water in order for it to mist, sometimes when there is to much white paint it may not come out of the bottle, I just use any white acrylic paint, mixed with the blending fluid, and water, so maybe a1/3 of the paint and blending fluid, (Mix Equal amount to add up to 1/3 of Bottle) and fill the rest of the bottle you are using with water and shake, you may have to experiment to see what works best for you, some of the spray bottles don't work very well, I like the ones with a handle like this one: www.amazon.com/dp/B08H5B86MP?ref=exp_allisonprior_dp_vv_d let me know if you have more questions...

I am very new to acrylics and am a bit confused about the canvas. Some artist say something about painting the canvas white at first before anything else. The canvas I use is primed with Gasso. Do I paint the canvas white (and maybe with water) before painting anything or do I go ahead and paint and then use the Magic Mist to blend? Or instead of panting it white, do I just mist the canvas? Or is misting it the same as painting it white? What is the first step? Help!

Because there is no White paint in it, it's just a medium you use to add to your paint to keep it from drying to fast....

Thank you for asking, the pouring medium will make you paint flow faster so you can do pour art, it may stay wet a little longer because you are using alot of paint, but the slow dry blending medium will keep your paint wet much longer, you should try adding equal amounts of pouring medium to paint and then do another batch with the slow dry blending medium, use equal amounts, just try a small amount you don't want to waste paint..and see which one stays wet longer..have fun..

Yes, just leave out the white, and use the liquid slow dry medium, and blending get, equal amounts, or just one of those, put it in 1/3 of the misting bottle and the rest water... I think I showed that in my video....I will have another look...I hope that helps..

you still prime your canvas with a gesso? and use the mist blend whenever you want the paint to flow? or am I missing something? sorry im very new to painting

Thank you for asking Bob, I only use Gesso if I want a smoother canvas, or if I am using wood, or cardboard, the canvas I buy are already primed with Gesso, also I only mist when I need the paint to flow and blend better which is the larger areas of my painting like a sky, or a backround where I want the colors to blend nicely, here is a video where I'm using the Magic Mist..kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mKemiZam0qi9eas.html.

@@allisonprior hi Allison your mix i followed and am for the first time enjoying painting whiteout the need to get oils.. so much fun thank you for the tips it works beautifully! do you have any beach landscape settings with someone sitting on a beach chair facing the ocean.. a friend asked me to do that.. and the chair and person part of the pic i think will be impossible to do

Thank you for asking, yes the retarder is added to the magic mist, if you use it alone it's to thick for a mist, and it will take longer to dry, adding water will dilute the retarder and it will still make your paint move more smoothly but will dry faster.. I hope that helps..

Why is it getting sticky and causing like glumpy spots. It's like building up thicker in some spots. Like it's not drying even. It's hard to explain.

Thank you for asking, I'm not sure why that happened to you, I never had any problems, It could be your not adding enough water, or the blending gel or liquid is old, maybe it is left in a warm place near the sun, there are so many reasons, maybe your paint is old, or something wrong with your paint, just make sure you shake the bottle to mix the ingredients well...I hope you get this to work for you....
