How to Make Mechanical 7 Segment Display from Cardboard
In today's video I want to show you 7 segment display with unique machenism that is our own invention. There are 7 circles inside. Each circle has it's own trigger that read circle program and responds for opening/closing specific segment. Full assembly instructions are includede in the video!
Materials you need: cardbaord, paper, rubber bands, springs and popsicle sticks. Enjoy :)

Base coat of white paint on the digits prior to the yellow paint would have made it pop even more, too... But whatever. The darned thing works like it was designed to, and the technical ingenuity of some people never fails to impress me.

Brilliant - where was this idea when I was a kid in the 70's - before I got into electronics - I would have built two these and used them to score table tennis. Love it!.

It works great for small crowds. For bigger crowds, you need make minor adjustments so some of the segments flip much further. This makes it more legible at different viewing angles

It is possible, he couldn't make anything nearly as powerful as modern computers but early computers were made for calculations and various mathematical problems.. He could also make a small storage that could store text ( something that can be done in minecraft )

this is amazing , the way you convert the hide/display of the yellow panels to rotation of cams , it's just genius not to mention that you used a method with that table to make sens of all variables . you litterly are blowing my mind with all these inventions . keep doing this stuff you are inspiring alot of people

See 3:32 it's the state table which is used in electronic. 3:34 onwards is the technique to convert that table to mechanical output

If you wanted to make it more complex, you could implement a 16 segment display and then you can do letters too.

What if you made a frame that is as deep as the number-segments' width and place it around the display area. This will hide the yellow part of a number shop that people from all sides can read it. I added an entire recession on my model that has black light reactive yellow paint. Thanks for the tutorial!

Механическую часть бы подробнее.И схему расположения рычажков.Лучше видно,когда детали разного цвета.Понятнее получается. Впрочем, если смотреть внимательно и останавливать на каждом шагу, то можно повторить. Картонные коробки можно заменить фанерой - вес тот же, прочность выше, + долговечность. Спасибо за идею!
