Hello everyone! So I wanted to make this video for a while but I've been sick and trying to find a good piece to do something like this on. I hope the things I discuss on here help you guys and if you have any questions or things you want to talk or ask about please comment and let me know! I promise to help to the best of my ability!
If you'd like to download the score I was using in this video:

Mark Sabatini on his MuseScore teaching channel just discussed the solo violin issue. He showed that you can change the violin sound to a baroque style that doesn't slide. You make the change on the top bar of the mixer. go to Muse sounds-strings and select violine and then change to violin 2. NO more slides.

Nice tips! I never thought about using a violin section through a vocal booth to substitute for a more realistic solo violin. There have not been many tutorials on making MuseScore 4 Muse Sounds sound better, so I am glad to know here is one. (Brief MuseScore 4 Muse Sounds tip below.) Particularly for loud pieces: If the exported audio is clipping (distorting in the MP3/WAV/FLAC export but not in the MuseScore 4 application), playback the piece at the loudest passage and set the master volume until the meter reads around 0 units. This tip has always worked in the MuseScore community, so I thought I share here since it is a common problem. Hope this helps for anyone having playback problems. P.S. Musescore 4 Music, would you mind if I commented a few more tips on MuseScore with Muse Sounds? Edit: Here are the tips! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9Zmfq-bsrnSkWw.html&lc=UgyFyrwTanPkjdS-OVJ4AaABAg

jsyk there’s a button right in the top of the screen called mixer that if you click will show the mixer, you don’t have to go through the view dialogue. also as far as navigating in your score i noticed you use your mouse a lot, using the scroll wheel combined with the shift and control buttons can (after some getting used to) help navigate a lot faster!

Most of the time I barely zoom in or scroll but for the video, I had to show specific areas/emphasize them. Thank you for the comments! I hope it can help others :)!

Interesting approach, removing the reverb sends and adding reverb on the master bus. Why not edit the reverb effect in Aux 1? Then you can still have the individual control of how much reverb each instrument is given.
@Musescore4show
@Musescore4show 5 ай бұрын
Generally, I blanket everything in 1 reverb on master and apply to specific ones if needed. If its a piece that requires odd things in terms of instruments then I would only do it individually.

Staff Pad Hall reverb sounds very similar to the default Aux channel reverb plugin 'Muse Reverb' under 'Muse' in plugins, I'm guessing the Staffpad Hall is just there so that you can dry/wet on the master if you don't want to micro the reverb. Or do they sound different to you?
@Musescore4show

They sound similar but I use both in conjunction. It allows some instruments/parts to come out more while making others more subdued in the mix.

MuseScore jave definitely come a long way. Makes you question the $200+ yearly Sibelius Ultimate subscription. A problem I have with these software is playing back what I actually write. I orchestrate for performance not midi playback. I don't like touching the midi window. When correctly written, the instruments should be fairly balanced, obviously this is also the job of the conductor. Balancing the orchestra. I tried to write something so it would sound good on the playback, just to realized I had to rewrite a lot of stuff and add unrealistic number of instruments an orchestra will never hire. It's great that we can heaar my music being play back as supposed to hearing in my head, but messing with the volume and changing texture with reverv makes me uncomfortable. I want a software that will playback sul pont. Or col legno on my string section. Violin chords have to be re written. Violins roll the bow across to reach all the notes, which gives it a unique sound. Not all the notes are play at once. I don't want 4 flutes so it sounds full when I'm writing a solo flute.

#1 Before proceeding, I recommend saving a backup copy of the score; best done when the piece is complete.
@karolcpm-
@karolcpm- 5 ай бұрын
#2: Turn off the default reverb on each part (as shown on 3:57). The Muse Sounds Reverb plugin (from the Muse Hub) has better options. I find StaffPad Hall is excellent option for calm pieces, though it may result in a muddier reverberation with pieces that are fast and loud. Medium Room Reverb is dryer than StaffPad Hall, but it will retain instrument details and provide a very realistic reverb, even with past and loud paced pieces. Feel free to experiment with other reverb options for an option that works best for your piece.
@karolcpm-
@karolcpm- 5 ай бұрын
#3: Important step already mentioned in the previous comment: Playback the loudest part in the entire piece and adjust the master volume in the mixer, until the meter reads around 0 units during loudest passages. This will eliminate any clipping in the audio export.
@karolcpm-
@karolcpm- 5 ай бұрын
#4: Cinematic orchestral panning will generally balance the instruments to be easy on the ear while perceiving a soundscape (as was done at 8:29). However, the method for classical pieces often pan the horns at the left, rest of the brass at the right or center, violins 1 at the far left, etc... If you want to pan based on the standard orchestral layout, you can search for "orchestral panning graphs" for a visual guide, or download the template guide found in the description below my tutorial video.
@karolcpm-
@karolcpm- 5 ай бұрын
#5: MuseScore and any other notation apps are not live performers and often have playback issues interpreting dynamics in scores, especially scores not natively made in notation software. Keep in mind perceived loudness (how loud the performer is playing as heard by the ear) and the actual loudness (how loud the volume is, regardless to the player's dynamics). For (an extreme) example, you can have a solo instrument clearly audible at PPP while the rest of the orchestra is at FF (though this would sound unrealistic). A piano playing quietly at PP would be very soft compared to a hard F. If an instrument is not loud enough, is it because the dynamic is too soft or because the instrument volume is too soft. In my experience, Muse Sounds trumpets and bass drum usually need a good boost to be reasonably audible. Once satisfied with the dynamics (as on 18:46), adjust the individual part volumes until the important instruments are reasonably audible. Unfortunately depending on the piece, you may not be able to make everything audible or mud will result. The original MS Basic sounds most are used to are synthesized to be clear and very audible, while Muse Sounds are sampled for better realism. The goal in this step is to make the most significant passages reasonably audible.
