Hey everyone! In today's video, I will be showing you how to make Nanite Meshes ready for Unreal Engine 5 in less than 5 minutes using Blender and Substance Painter. This is a very simple workflow that requires little effort and the results are really good! Specifically designed for people who want to kit bash a landscape and have decent assets in their scenes.

Good job on being concise! It's actually pretty difficult to find a video that gets straight to the point like yours.

Thank you for this! I’ve been having trouble sculpting organic formations and with this I can skip by exporting the base mesh entirely.

Thanks Luke. I'll put a tutorial on how to uv map Zbrush meshes soon so that we retain all that dense detail.

so as a I understood (from a PBR bake traditional background as a 3D Artist) you just need to UV map the low poly (where we used to make it ready for bake from highpoly) but here for nanite, you apply modifiers or Zbrush to make it mid poly, and instead of baking it, You go import it straight to the Substance Painter and do the rest of texturing without any need for bake maps! right?

Yeah, that's right. If you do this sensibly enough, you will end up with less space on the disk taken by not having to have a Normal Texture and also reduce video ram overhead.

Well yeah it will work this way I suppose but what if I already have a presculpted mesh that has like 50-100 million polygons in it and I want to texture it, create UV's and so on? Like for example those crazy statutes in UE5 presentation? Substance Painter would simply crash on me if I tried to load a mesh like that. It's basically impossible to texture something like that. Well... at least to my knowledge.

I'm quite sure they mentioned you would first start with a base lower poly mesh that you then subdivide and add detail on it in order to have your initial uvs. Or you can transfer your uvs from a Zremeshed version of your mesh to your high poly one. There are tutorials on how to do that

Every example for nanite is a rock, cliff, slab of granite..etc. Have you used it for something say.. a car? with UV and baking. Just wondering about it's limitations.

It works well for cars as well. Watch my videos on how to animate nanite meshes and you will see.

To help loading times and downloads, I want to limit the the triangle limit on each rock to 60k polys, is there a way to export this without the seams and still have the detailed height?

I would suggest using another software like blender to remesh and get a lower density mesh. But you need to fiddle a lot to get the desired effect

Tesseation dosent ffing wotk with Nanite lol the the point with nanite is to let the mesh create the displacement. not the texture itself..
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you are trying to say. This approach is a quick way of using an actual real life texture to create geometry for you and then convert to nanite for performance.

@@ArghanionsPuzzlebox that the hole point if using a 10 million polygon asset is the use the meshshaps and the details. not a bumbed texture map. to simulate shape and form. the hole point is to remove tessellation as a expensive resource if are going with tessellation you are better of doing it on a low poly.

All assets in the UE5 demos were using bump maps as well for extra detail. They even said so.
