It’s a lot easier to push the shroud over the cable and the part of the gland needed before you expose the steel wires that can make it harder to do this

Excellent video👍 clear and informative. One thing worth mentioning is that the steel wire armour should not be visible at the bottom of the gland assembly when you've tightened up the last waterproof nut with the rubber seal. If it is then the armour has been cut too long and the gland is not waterproof, despite the outer rubber shroud.

Hi mate, In my house we have 1 junction box (Outdoor) and from there 2 SWA cable 2.5mm come out for 2 different areas. They are plugs but we use them for lighting and charging some battery tools in the garage. I'm worried maybe the consumption is not dangerous or maybe the installation. Excellent video mate!

there is a much easier way than faffing about with a hacksaw simply use a standard plumbers adjustable pipe cutter, it will cut through the outer sheath and score the armour wires in seconds perfectly straight around the cable

Great video, very helpful! I'm looking to make off an SWA gland on a SWA Ethernet cable into a very similar junction box - does the SWA still need earthing? And if so, how would I do this, given there won't be an earth to connect to? I can't find anything online that covers this and it's driving me crazy haha

It should be fine, the only time this would have trouble for regulations is when you're installing it in a "special location" a.k.a a bathroom, if you're still worried use a higher IPX grade junction box

Armoured cable is normally the safest choice if you're running to a garage or an outbuilding, ideally the cable will be buried but you can clip along a wall, fence etc. if you don't mind having it on display.

Quick few questions So what are you connecting the SWA to. Is that just 2.5 twin and earth from the ring main. And on the otherside at the shed for example would you do the same. Connect it to 2.5 twin and earth using terminal blocks and then connect up your sockets Secondly the SWA i saw online has difference colour cable. Grey, black and brown. Is this the same stuff. Also I was going to trail the cable underground in conduit. Have you got it under the slabs?

Where did you then connect the earth wire from the SWA nut to earth it? To a socket?
@stirious8407
@stirious8407 8 ай бұрын
You connect it with the earth coming from the consumer unit, use a WAGO 221 2-way connector to attach them together or if the junction box is metal or has an additional earthing terminal inside the box (usually found in the corner of a box) you will need a 3-way WAGO 221 connector to add an additional earth wire to the box :)
