Making paintings that align with your goals, that you're inspired by and proud of, isn't a matter of luck or natural talent; it's about having a clear process to identify where you want to go, and show you step-by-step how to get there.

Every painter is so different. She focuses on how important planning is. Another painter says he doesn’t know what will happen as he pulls out of the paint , the painting. Good to hear how she approaches her art.

I love the painterly style but as an representational artist who has done many portraits, I have been habituated to painting tightly. I too love Sargent, Fechin, and I have seen Quang Ho's work in Colorado and have even met him but I am finding it difficult to paint anything like them. Your video has given me hope.

I like to paint “ the feeling of whatever I am focussing on “ .... e.g. Whether figurative or abstract - a loose painterly style and it also fits with my training as a Contemporary dance where I also prefer that the trained body is strong, sensuel and intuitive so that you have all kind of qualities in every movements you are doing

I decided to teach myself to watercolor last winter. I was all starry eyed and didn’t see the dark side of it coming. After a couple months I joined a watercolor Facebook group. I was so new… I didn’t have my own style, still didn’t really understand much. Next thing I knew every time I sat down to paint it was with trepidation, stress and anxiety. I’d get to the middle, and not understanding it’s just the ugly phase that always happens, I’d sit there with waves of failing and disappointment running thru me. I was also doing challenges that were given to us each week that were too hard for me. I told myself it was good to force myself. Usually they turned out and I liked them but in the end I quit because it just didn’t feel good… it was supposed to be relaxing and fun. Several months have gone by now. I still want to paint. I think I wanted that energy off me so I’ve let time go by. I guess when the time is right I’ll go back. I think the biggest learning curve for me wasn’t so much learning to paint it’s learning to manage that criticizing voice that so sneaky and never shuts up.

Your work looks traditional to me. I didnt go to college or major in art so im very unaware or most historical famous people. Your work looks like some famous artist way before the people you mentioned . you know theres energy signatures out there to recieve as thought and some signatures have over time great emphasis placed on them and it makes them even stronger energy. Just as you hold your brush real long and kinda cat stare off into space like daydreamin,? It could be an old strong energy signature from a famous artist way way back still playing out continued existence in reality this short instant.

I'm late to this video but I was curious about something you mentioned - that you taught yourself to design and sew dance clothing! I am a former ballet and modern dancer. I've always dreamed of creating a line of dancewear and somehow incorporate my artwork into it as well. Do you still create dancewear? I'd love to see it! Anyway, I have saved many of your videos and I have learned so much from them.

Why is it that some paintings hit you like a sledgehammer and others don't? Paintings that have the power to change lives. Why do you think this is. Some paintings are like a fervid hallucination and others a wet Sunday afternoon. That certain je nais sa quoi. The magic. Such as a late Turner or a Durer, a Modigliani, a Vermeer. WHAT is that otherness and sublimity? Where does it come from? Answers on a postcard, sil vous plait

Painting materials are expensive and apparently oil paintings has materials with toxic chemicals. And you still need to clean the brushes with chemicals... But i still painted and not care anymore, if I have no primer as for the brush, i buy cheap ones, which i can just dispose. Next time, I’ll get back to water colors.
