How to Make Paper Micarta

7 жыл бұрынThis is the first in a series going over my process for making custom revolver grips. I chose to use micarta for the material and this kind of a DIY approach to making micarta. Be sure to check out the other parts in this series.

Use a 2 to 1 epoxy resin. Cures slow so you got longer work time. Also cures clear. I use the lets resin brand

nice vid.. just a heads up.. if you lay saran wrap in your press first you won't have such a mess of a time getting your micarta out of the press and you won't have parchment paper stuck all over inside it

What kind of paper (stock) are you using? What should I look for an Amazon when I shop for this stuff, do you have a list?

InkwellFoto cardstock for scrapbooking is what I used. You can use whatever kind of paper you want as long as it soaks up the resin and had a little “tooth” to it. Resin is just standard fiberglassing resin. Polyester resin to be exact.

How much of that quart did it take?

If I remember correctly... I used 4-6 ounces. I probably should've used more. I always like to mix a bit more then I think is needed.

What type of paper do you use?

Godaresgod Ares In this one I used scrapbooking card stock. You can use any kind of paper as long as it has some tooth to it. I just picked this one because I wanted a thick piece of micarta to work with. Hope that helps!

Next one coming in a couple days. Had a small setback with mounting hardware so I had to find a readily available alternative.

It stuck in the mold because you were wrapping the paper with gloves full of glue.

Talk a little slower and you can eliminate all the "ummmms". Or think about what you want to say and say it.
