Hello. My name is Jared Dines and I’ve been fooling people into thinking I can play the guitar for years. Since you clicked on this video, you must be interested in doing that too. But let's be honest, in this economy nobody has the time to practice. You have parties to go to, friends to hangout with, girls to impress. You want people to think you’re a guitar god without putting in thousands of hours, and I’m here to show you how...

Back in my early 20's, I've been practicing classical and fingerstyle guitar every single day for multiple hours. I absolutely refused to strum chords and play popular stuff to which people can sing. During all those years, it only occurred 3 times that I've impressed a girl: 1. I was at a party and didn't know many people. Someone brought a guitar so I though "well, might as well do some practice while I'm here". I started playing Angelina by Tommy Emmanuel and a girl literally ran up to me from a 10m distance while exclaiming "omg, this guy can REALLY play!". She stayed until the end of the song, but I didn't get her later. Some guy with an emo haircut and piercings beat me to it lol. I did impress 2 random dudes though, hahaha... 2. I was playing classical guitar while riding a train home. Last seat in the last wagon, just playing some arrangements for my own enjoyment. At one station, in comes a girl, and although the train was almost empty, she sits right in front of me. She sat there for 45min while listening to me play, she didn't say a word and I didn't wanna start a conversation cuz at that point in my life I really didn't wanna waste my time on girls. Before she got of the train she said "Sorry to interrupt you, I just need to tell you that you are a really talented guitar player". I smiled, said "Thank you!" and kept on playing. Not sure if she was into me or not, but she sure was impressed. 3. While I was doing gymnastics I got injured so I sat on the bench. Next to me was a girl who also had an injury and had to rest there. We got into a conversation and I told her that I play the guitar. She asked me what kind of music I play, to which I just laughed and said "Just some fingerstyle stuff, no one ever recognizes the songs I play". So she said "Try me". I was like "Nah, no way you'd know. Some of them are even Japanese and even some guitarists don't know about them. Like, a dude called Kotaro Oshio for example. There's just no way that..." and she just exclaimed "OMG! You know about Kotaro Oshio?! Look up at the Evening Starts is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard on the guitar!". I was mindblown. That was one of the standard songs on my set list. Turns out she's a piano school graduate and was not only into classical music, but also into fingerstyle guitar artists, anime music and video game music, just like me. So she knew over half of the songs in my setlist. 10 years later we got married and now we have 4 lovely guitars, a healthy keyboard and a cute violin in our living room. :D

I remember 10 years ago when I first picked up a guitar the only reason I wanted to play was bc "girls liked guys who played guitar" then in college I actually played at a party kinda like that exact scenario and impressed a girl (literally just finger picked 3 chords on loop and hit the guitar for percussion lmaoo)... Now me and said girl have been together for almost 3 years. So, I'd say its accurate.

Try those Target fancy nails and Crazy Glue-works great-shape them to fit... JARED should make a video with an aspiring female who comes in with DOLLY PARTON fingers and tries to play guitar! Ha, the day I went looking for a Stratocaster; had a whole crowd gathered when I blasted off PROUD MARY with all of the bar chords sliding down the fingerboard! I told him I needed a narrow neck guitar to get a better sound!! WELL DONE, Jared!; You hold that guitar like a real PRO. You should hove been at the Brass Ring years ago, when Delaney and Bonnie were preforming there. I was working with Ben Benay on some originals arrangements; I played a few melodies for him on violin, and he knew I was teaching myself guitar; He said he wanted to show me something that the "guitarists like to use to impress the girls' with!" HE SHOWED ME THE BAR CHORD, ha the Major, the Minors, the 7th; (and yes, the C#Minorj, with a diminished 7th"....THEN he clamped a capo on; WOW Guitar made Easy! WHEN I SHOWED MY FEMALE FRIENDS AND STUDENTS THAT BAR CHORD sliding up and down the fingerboard, I think live band performances lost a major part of their screaming girl fans! Like to see you use that CHEATER BAR in some of your new videos! Have fun-And I was told that "cheater bar" was just a bar where people hung out to cheat on their spouses.!. "You're the Reason I'm Not Married!" "I Saw the Light" (with fake fiddles, ha!) "Why Are You Cheatin' on Me?" Heartaches " Acapella and "Opera at it's Worst!? "Your Fine Feathered Friends" fer some pickin' with a capo and some fancy fitted plastic nails! FredGold&LyndaFaye LyndaFayeSmusic@Yahoo; Go Ahead- It'll Make Our Day! Got a song for JARED too!

In my experience, the best way of learning is to learn the actual songs and never ever be satisfied with a "beginner" version. Just remember to actually work on unfamiliar techniques as you're learning a song. The best thing about this approach is that you're truly learning the songs you like instead of doing random exercises and learning "practice" songs. This way, I've made more progress in a year than in all the years before that. And you don't have to turn into a hermit to achieve good results. If you want to be the next Steve Vai, then you have no choice but to eat and sleep with your guitar, but being able to play the songs you like and play them well is not that hard. The problem is most people go for the easiest rendition of a song every time, so they never improve. I know, for I was one of them. Now I can easily play and sing like 20 songs at a party (which is not much compared to my friends' tracklists), but I do it well and get positive reactions every time. And I certainly get better reviews than those who can play a million songs, but have to whip out their phones with chords every time they play. If you're staring at your phone or your fretboard all the time, people lose interest in no time.

This video hits home 💀 Almost every college party I went to where someone played guitar, had no idea what they were doing. It was always disappointing, because I genuinely wanted to jam. I didn't know to many hits, as I spent most of my time learning jazz, metal, funk and punk. I had been taking lessons for a few years and was well accustomed to improv. All of that DID pay off when I was busking though! Other musicians would stop to jam! Just Sadly not many parties had decent players.

I appreciate the humor of great guitarists such as yourself, Mr. Dines, Stevie T, and Rob Scallon. Without you dudes, I would’ve given up years ago. Thanks 🖤🙏🏽

If Jared did an entire show of overconfident players who don't practice, it would hit right in the heart of everyone who still does.

Man this takes me back to college. I'd be the fool taking lessons, practicing scales, learning songs that were not commercial. I would rip into my favourite Iron Maiden song while a dude would play G - Cadd9 - D and people's world would fall apart as they admired the greatest guitarist ever known. This is essentially the Ed Sheeran way to professional guitarology.

Watching this with a terrible acoustic guitar at hand (bc i lost my electric) haven't played electric in over 7 months. This was soul crushing. Gonna go to a jam session tonight, i might reconsider and drink tile whitener instead.

I ctrl f'd to find this comment. This video is essentially just a remake of that video. I got to the point where he talks about "learn one song" and I was like "I stg, if he plays Wonderwall..."

The premise/setup is one most of us have experienced, but is not developed enough to actually be funny. Sean Daniel, joking around, with his laid back lesson format on similar themes, are hilarious.

The way I fingerpick is pretty tough with the thumb, not lifting it, but pushing it onto the string you wanna pluck next so you can get similar or better controlled volume, tone consistency. Its hard to keep it tight in rhytmn but once mastered can really speed your picking up and you wont have to think about it anymore. Plus the greats pick like this
