In The Netherlands we have those too, mostly in the northern part, we call those kniepertjes. And we sometimes also roll little tubes out of them, (called rolletjes) and fill those up with sweet whipped cream. (I can imagine them with vanilla-sweet-cheese-creme as well, but I can imagine a lot ;) ) Happy baking!

I just started making them for the holidays and for the first time I used a vintage Pizzelle maker that you use on a gas stove. They came out incredible

I'm Italian and I make at least 100 of these with my grandma each Christmas and Easter to take to huge parties, they are one of my favorite cookies just based on the simplicity and how you can mix them up.

Great recipe, I'll have to do these! You kept mentioning "grandma". All I can say for all of you who are reading this...ENJOY your Grandma's while they are living because we only get one set and the memories are priceless!

I love that you made them with vanilla and almond and lemon zest!! My grandmother made them with anise and orange zest... and I could never get into them... can't wait to try them this way! .

@adriphat you cant. These require a pizzelle maker. You can order one online they are inexpensive and a great tool to have.

Surprised to learn you prefer non-anise seed pizzelles! Just made a batch last night & wanted to check out your how-to... I'd love to have you taste our family ones...instead of anise extract, we use anise seeds soaked in annisete liquor - So subtle & Yum! (Fun to see these older video!)
@dianaseverns46076 жыл бұрын
joybmassa you do it the right way with the seeds. When u use the extract they come out too soft ! That’s the difference between the seeds and extract!

Pizzelles!!! We use to eat these all the time living in Italy. Us girls would make them with my mom. Watching you video brought back memories. We know live in a state where there are a lot of Norwegians. They make them as well but they call them krumkake, same recipe though.

They look good. Almond flavor is a good choice but I love anise. Might do both.
@kirkmcfly407 ай бұрын
Your recipe is similar to my grandmother's however, we use a combination of Anise & Butter Rum oil. I also make Orange & Cardamom pizzelles. I find that extracts cook out most of the flavor due to the very nature of the pizzelle iron.

When i was little, we went to Italy every summer and I remember my Nonna would put vanilla ice cream between two pizzelles. And my cousins, my brother, and I would eat them all before she had finished filling them. :) VIVA ITALIA!

@piglovesjiff12 жыл бұрын
@vicensz You could use the green lemons or limes or any other citrus like an orange. She was saying that the batter can be to sweet so the lemon zest is sour and cuts the sweetness. So really you can use whatever you have!

i think that the machine you used is exactly what a waffle cone maker is (which i have one) its just sperated out into three sections for the cookies.. so im thinking i would use the recipe and put it in my waffle cone maker (which they come out as think as those cookies) and just cut them into quarters, right???

i've made pizzelles for a long time and i always use pure anisette oil... would fill the house with the smell which i like... even the cat would beeline to the kitchen....hahahaha. i had an old school pizelle maker.. not teflon.. 2 bigger ones at a time.. i dont use teflon anything in my house... thing about pizelles.... you cant eat just one..so you have to make a lot of them. some of my italian friends put anise seeds in the batter too and thats great also .

@chicagofrank2010 I can't agree. The one's I've tried in the store are 1) way too expensive 2) hard as rocks and not very tasty. Splurge, buy the pizzelle maker, believe me you won't regret it. As Laura points out, you can make cookies, cannoli's ice cream sandwiches and cups to hold custard and berry desserts.

Looks a lot like the traditional Love Letters I've eaten. The difference? The batter is a little runny, so you get a really thin and crispy rolled up Love Letters. I miss the Lunar New Year now....
