FYI, in case anyone doesn't know this: if you ask for automotive hose clamps in stainless (i.e., from your local auto parts store), most likely the screw WON'T be stainless. Marine hose clamps, however, are fully stainless. Liked and subscribed, BTW. 👍

Sorry dude, but your title "How to make preformed radiator hoses that look great" is a bit misleading. You didn't 'make' a preformed hose...you covered a hose that was already performed. If your title had 'that' removed, 'How to make preformed radiator hoses look great', it would be an accurate description of what you did. Not criticizing your video itself... it's good. 👍

You’re preaching to the choir. I wish I could title my videos “hey today I played with my hot rod” but unfortunately KZfaq has a crazy algorithm that only shows your video to people if the title is worded a certain way. So BELIEVE me… I LOATHE clickbaity titles, but in reality, it’s completely necessary because you, the end user wont click on videos unless “power words”, “emotional words”, “phrases that invoke an emotional response” are employed. Its ridiculous but thats the way the human brain is. I have to spend literally DAYS researching what title will get views before I release a video. I hate it. Dont hate the player, hate the game.

@@intheshoptv Yeah, but I came here looking for how to make preformed hoses and just wasted my time. This was 100 percent you just taking a a close compatible hose and putting flare on it with a little trimming. Doing this wont land you more views either. If you actually made the hose then I would have more than likely came back, subscribed, and watched more of your videos.

@@ApexMotoLab256 Im a small channel, my videos net an average of 1300 views each, and about 25 new subscribers. This video got 70,000 views and 800+ new subscribers. That tells me that unfortunately KZfaq and viewers reward these types of titles. So my options were: this title, which yielded fantastic results. Or “Hey please watch me put some stuff on my hoses” which nobody (including you) would have clicked on. Nobody HATES that is has to be that way more than me but the truth is - you never would have found ANY of my videos, watched, this one, OR commented on any of them, if it had been some other title so… dont get mad at me, get mad at the human brain. Additionally, this title aside, I work really hard on these videos and the content. You don’t have to watch anything else but there is some really great content in there. With or without you, the channel is growing rapidly and has 3700 subs in just over a year, we’ll continue to do great with or without you along for the ride, though I’d prefer “with”… you do what you feel you need to. Thanks for watching anyway.

Me and my buddy did the same thing on his small block Chevy in his S-10. We were able to find a lower hose but not an upper. We both hate those universal flex hoses but that's all we could find so put the loom on it and it looked great. Couldn't even tell it was a flex hose. The only thing we did different was to use T-clamp hose clamp and no shrink. The solid and wide body of the clamp captured and hid the end of the wire loom. Plus we cut ours with a hot knife so it "seals" the end of the looming and it doesn't unravel. Still looked great a year later when we ripped the engine out last weekend to install a 740 horse LS 427. Love the show, been sub'd for a while now.

I had thought about your sleeve addition to improve the looks. Great job. I've still have many OE radiator hoses and if some one has the patients they can usually find a hose for their application, Also Gates has adapter to make a too large hose fit a smaller outlet, they work well. thanks for you video

The brass barb used for the small hose, another option might work. Get a fitting with only one smooth barb at the end leaving a smooth original diameter mid section for a hose clamp. Instead of the typical hose clamps, try a PEX crimp ring instead. The copper rings can be found in black. The stainless steel rings can be squeezed a bit tighter than the copper ones. I use this to fix my shop air hoses and it works great.

I've used heat shrink hose clamps when I worked at the truck dealer and on my personal vehicle. They've worked well for me. I think you might be able to adapt them to this to make it look even cleaner, and I know you can buy them through Summit.
@intheshoptv
@intheshoptv 3 ай бұрын
Since they’re a one time use product, I wouldn’t be able to use them until the truck is closer to being finished, as with a custom build - there is a likelihood of the hoses being on and off again.

It helps having auto part stores willing to help. Using factory style parts to me is always a better option, when you go too fancy on everything, it starts to look cluttered and then if you have an issue out on the road, it makes things more of a struggle than it needs to be. The engine and cooling system looks great

Great idea, looks cleaner and adds some abrasion resistance as well. A couple other ways to clamp it are the gates shrink to fit sleeves, or if you wanted to spice it up a little, you could use one of the wire hose clamp tools with stainless, aluminum, or possibly even copper. Thanks for the link for the Techflex!

There actually is real shrink fit ends for hoses. Ive used them for several years. Only problem is that you must cut and destroy them to remove the hose. But they do look very nice and neat. Made by Gates.
@intheshoptv
@intheshoptv 3 ай бұрын
Yes, the Gates power grips - they’ve been discussed quite a bit in the comments, and I agree the one negative is that they’re not reusable but do make a nice finished appearance. The electric shrink tubing I used, doesn’t really apply any clamping force; instead, it just dressed the cut end of the tech flex sleeving (hence the use of hose clamps).

Gates makes heat shrink for hose that is used without clamps. All manufacturers use it currently on the hose ends of the multi tube hose assemblies.

You need to know about Gates Powergrip SB clamps. They're heat shrink ends for radiator hoses. No need for the worm drive, you simply heat the ring and it tightens to proper spec to keep the leaks away. You're welcome, and sure, I need a 3rd plasma

@@intheshoptv I guess where my brain is stuck is the heat shrink. Will the hose still pull off of the neck without having to cut the heat shrink? @intheshoptv

@@FunKingGarage gotcha, no it just closes the frayed end of the tech flex for cosmetics. The electrical shrink doesn’t apply enough force to clamp the hose. Thats why I still used the black worm gear clamp!

Quick question: have you tried removing/reinstalling the hoses with the shrink wrap? Looks great but seems to me that this is a one-time install and the only way to remove will be with a razor blade.
@intheshoptv
@intheshoptv 3 ай бұрын
Yes. The shrink tubing doesn’t apply clamping force to the hose (like the Gates Powerband product), its regular electrical shrink tubing that only dresses the end of the hose and hides the frayed end of the techflex and prevents it from unraveling. the black worm gear clamps is what applies force. I had them off and on just the other day when I filled the engine and radiator with coolant.
