I've been making beats for 5 years now only by training my ear to hear what sounds good and what does not and I also learned some basic chord progressions. My question is : how do I go about learning music theory and what exactly do I need to know in order to make melodies faster? I can crank up pretty good melodies but it takes me quite some time because mentally I don't know what notes go well with each other. I just click them in until they sound good.
