Incredible! I love how soft it makes the feet look, just like a cats paw! Thank you for the detailed explanation and tips on where to purchase the materials, it’s very helpful!

I'm sure I'm about the thousandth person to say so, but I hope I'm no less impactful when I say thank you thank you thank you for all the work you've done in putting so much wonderful tutorial content out there!! I'm just getting started sewing, and while I've got a few plushies under my belt, I've got sooo much to learn. You make everything look so approachable and easy to understand for someone like me who learns best from seeing the process start to finish. I make a conscious effort to avoid sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for my mental health, which unfortunately has limited my access to community resources that could otherwise help me to learn a lot. Your videos have made up for that gap amazingly, and I can't thank you enough for sharing the tricks of your amazing craft with us. Your works are an inspiration, and I hope to someday learn to make something half as adorable as your beautiful plushies.

Thank you for this amazing tutorial!! I always thought you had to stuff the beans during embroidery. Never thought of adding the stuffing later on!!
@makeshiftwingsplush
@makeshiftwingsplush 2 жыл бұрын
you can do that too, and i still do it from time to time for ITH plushies and very small beans where the hole would be the entire size of the outline. just leave a little gap in the tack down stitch, stuff the bean, close the gap with another stitch, and then do satin stitch after if you want

So you don't close the holes up afterwards? Just let whatever you're sewing it to or paw stuffing to just keep it in place? Also STABLIZER UGH! YES! I was doing all of this but I would cut most of the stablizer off inside and out, I thought it would get in the way of stuffing properly XD!! Gah!! Can't wait to try this and make all the plushy paws!!
@makeshiftwingsplush
@makeshiftwingsplush 2 жыл бұрын
since the holes are so small there is really no risk of the stuffing falling out. if you think your holes are too big or are nervous, you can try closing them up with a whip stitch or attaching some extra stabilizer behind it.

Thank you so much for this!! I had a question about adding a pattern piece outline as shown at 2:22 - do you think it's better to have the outline follow the seam line/edge of the piece, but then have to add seam allowance to the outside of that, and seamrip the outline stitches prior to sewing the piece together (to avoid the outline thread from showing in the finished plush)... or just have the pattern piece outline stitch include the seam allowance? If the latter, how would you easily gauge the correct seam allowance (lets say, 3/8") digitally?
@makeshiftwingsplush
@makeshiftwingsplush 2 жыл бұрын
i always include seam allowance in my pattern pieces so i've never had it go along the seam line, especially for the reasons where you said that you would have to seam rip it out of the final plush when you're done. i suppose you could make it a really long basting stitch ,then trace along the back side of the fabric where the stitch is for your sewing line, and then rip out the stitch before you sew it together ( i think this would be easier to do). in embird, there is an option to "expand objects" by a certain mm so you can do that to add the exact seam allowance, but it depends on the capabilities of your program. but, i usually just scan in my pattern piece that shows the seam allowance into my computer so i can just trace the exact line.

Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! :D Quick question- how long is the tack-down stitch? Are the mochi paws the only time you use this type of stitch?
@makeshiftwingsplush
@makeshiftwingsplush 2 жыл бұрын
tack down stitch is 1mm; tack down stitch is the term for the 2nd stitch used in applique to attach the top fabric to the bottom fabric, so it's always used when you do applique

super helpful tutorial! Would you say that this method gives better results compared to using quilt batting? I want to try this for my own plushies
@makeshiftwingsplush
@makeshiftwingsplush 2 жыл бұрын
if you're after bigger, squishier beans then yes! quilt batting provides some loft but no where near the amount of mochi+mochi stuffing

Those paw pads look absolutely adorable 😍 I have a question, I’m a beginner and I want to make a plushy, but I've never sewn plushies before ( I do have experience with sewing and making patterns ) and using mochi minky is going to be expensive to make a plushy out of. Is there maybe an alternative or a similar fabric that is less expensive? it’s just for practice only.

if you're only testing out paw pads you can try a 4 way stretch knit fabric (one that stretches both up and down and left to right). if you're trying to test out an entire plush, i don't think there's going to be any substitute that will mimic the stretch and feel of mochi enough to give you similar results between the prototype plush and final plush. you could try using joann's pure plush fleece for the prototype since you can get it on sale, but it's a 2 way stretch and hopen and big z's mochi is a 4 way stretch so your results will also be different

So, I'm curious, did you use your sublimation printer to get those multicolor beans at the beginning? Or did you tack down different colors of mochi minky? It looks complicated but I'd love to try it if I can :)
@makeshiftwingsplush

those were individually stitched on, but i'd love to use my sublimation setup to do that in the future!

I’ve been sewing with Minky for a while now, but I was wondering how much would you recommend me getting a walking foot for my machine? It’s so expensive, but would it make it better for sewing slippery fabrics? 😁
@makeshiftwingsplush
@makeshiftwingsplush 2 жыл бұрын
walking foot is nice but not necessary. i actually have stopped using mine for normal minky recently because i find the plain foot better (i think i need to either clean it or buy a new one, it just hasnt been performing well). i find a walking foot absolutely necessary for very slippery fabrics like luxe cuddle minky. i couldn't have sewn a recent plush i made with luxe cuddle without it! i also don't use a walking foot for mochi minky. it just gathers up underneath it
