You can just add one layer to the back of your damaged tombstones and repaint

I love your video. If you’re having an issue with the Dremel and the taped down paper - I use spray glue in a spray paint can and stick the paper onto the tombstone. Let it dry for half an hour then Dremel my letters out. The rest of the paper just peels off and a wet rag rubbed gently takes off any left overs. No need to push pin around the letters. Takes up too much time!

You said you were "painting" the tombstone at the end but it looks more like you coated it with something like monster mud. I noticed when you were doing it that the "paint" in the container was thick & then when the stone was finished it had a monster mud texture. Could be confusing. Edit: Just started part 2...yup, it was Drylok mixed with sand in case anyone watching after me wonders.

Great video. I was walking through home Depot the other day and saw this insulation board and immediately thought I bet I could make tombstones out of it. Glad to see it works! I'll be buying it tomorrow morning

Awesome ideas, and tips thank you. I like that the contact cement melts the foam I'm wondering if it can be painted on with a brush?
@ImNotBoredImCreative
@ImNotBoredImCreative 2 жыл бұрын
A better substance to use for melting the foam is acetone. That way you don’t have to worry about the stickiness of the glue.

You forgot the more cheaper solution ;) At least, on polystyrene (not as good as that pink XPS foam you got there, which is very expensive over here) boards i always use PUR foam to glue board ;) Works great and very strong!

Great projects, and great tips, now I'd like to leave a tip for you. From my experiences in my woodworking show, I found that old credit/debit cards, and gift cards make GREAT glue spreaders, unlike the popsickle sticks and tongue depressors you're using in this video. The gift cards keep your fingers much further away from the glue than the popsickle sticks. I also have a question about something you did not mention in this video. How do the glues, that you chose to use with your decorations, stand up to weather?? Often times decorations like these will get rained on or even snowed on depending on where you live. With this being the first time I have seen ANY of your videos, I wanted to make another suggestion for decorating your projects, I'm not sure if you covered this in another video. Gently use a stiff wire brush, like what you might clean a grill with, to give your project another layer of detail.

Thanks for the comments and tips! The dry lock that I paint them with waterproofs them so the glues are not affected. However none of the preferred glues are water soluble so should hand rain and weather very well anyway.

You should use water activated Gorilla Glue

I’ve actually tried it. It glues the foam well, but it dries too hard. It doesn’t sand at the same rate as the foam, so it leaves strange lines of hard glue. A saw can cut it fine, but an exacto struggles cutting through it. So if you use it in places where there won’t be further carving/sanding/cutting, it’s a good choice.

Wish you would have tried wood glue ? Thank you for sharing great video
@ImNotBoredImCreative
@ImNotBoredImCreative Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Wood glue doesn’t work very good. It takes a long time to dry (since the inner surface is not exposed to air) and once it dries, the foam can just pop apart.

With all that work and money spent on all the tools you'd need, I could buy 20 foam tombstones from Spirit Halloween and just fix them up a little...and I would've saved alot more money then making them myself.

True, if you were to buy the tools specifically to make tombstones. But if you already own the tools…. you could also do the whole construction of a tombstone with a dollar store razor knife too. (That’s how I made my first set of tombstones) It just depends on what amount of work you are ready to put into it.
