The smouldering fire looks eerily realistic in real life. Nice way to make realistic fireplaces or campfires for dioramas/dollhouses.
Fireplace was part of my bigger christmas decoration/miniature santa's house project.

WOW!! I LOVE this mini fireplace. It was really satisfying to watch you sculpting it 🎉out of styrofoam with an exacto knife, and then decorating it with basic craft materials like acrylic paint, glue and water, which all crafters have in their stash. Where did you find the styrofoam blocks? I'd love to try making this. Thank you for this great video tutorial. Merry Christmas, love from Amanda Jones in Melbourne, Australia P.S. Have you heard of Floetrol before? It's a paint conditioner that that thins down acrylic paint. I love it and it's not expensive either.

Merry Christmas to you as well, and greetings from southern Estonia! ;) Thanks for the positive comment! ;) I've got a bunch of styrofoam leftovers from my home building days, just scraps left behind by builders. I've seen the same thicker styrofoam in the hardware store. I haven't come across Floetrol before, but I do have some thinners for acrylic paints. Although, I tend to use regular water more often. I'm pretty new to dioramas, miniatures, painting, and crafting, but I'm learning and experimenting a lot. I was quite busy with my day job for some years, but now I've gotten back into tinkering. I've already filmed many projects, and many more are prepared and ready for building. Soon after editing, I'll be releasing more videos-starting with simpler ones and gradually moving on to more complex and interesting projects.

Believe it or not, I do not know :D I found those scraps about 7 years after my house was built, among leftovers. I have a lot more of it, enough for many years. It is quite dense and does not fall apart as easily.

Extruded polystyrene (XPS) It’s used as insulation. It’s also called foam board and commonly comes in a pink colour from places like Home depo. If you’re like me and live in Australia, good luck finding it 😢 you may fair better if you live in colder places like Canberra but where I live I can’t find any, anywhere. Bunnings doesn’t sell it or anywhere else I’ve tried. Amazon sells some small pieces if you’re not wanting it for large landscapes. What you don’t want is EXPANDED polystyrene. That’s the little balls all stuck together commonly found in appliance packaging etc to protect it from damage. It’s messy, hard to cut, doesn’t hold details and has dreadful static cling. If you live in Australia and find some, let me know 😉
