Note to anybody following with 4.2 on up: ya gotta hit the "Get Extensions" button to find the Extra Mesh Objects add-on. I don't know if it's universal, but it worked for me. And to Mr. King: you're a huge fount of knowledge for the community, and your work with shaders (and sharing all those tips n tuts for said shaders) is extremely impressive! Thanks so much. Great tutorial! How do you add a flat surface to the bottom of a rock? (Like its sitting on the floor). Also, how do you cut shapes out of the rock? I tried the Boolean method and keep getting an error message.

Hi! Thanks a lot, very useful tutorial. I try to eksport such rock to UE4 as fbx, but cannot texture in Unreal, it only displays purple faces on stones. What I'm doing wrong?

Hmm, if you want to import it to a game engine, you will need to apply the modifiers. Also you might want to make the rocks more low poly. You could turn down the subsurf before applying it, or add a decimate modifier, and turn down the poly count, and then apply it. Also, you might need to bake the textures into texture maps. Hope this helps.

Make sure that you have it uv unwrapped and that the uv don't have errors. That has messed me up a few times in the past.

What are you trying to export it to? You need to apply all of the modifiers first. Then it should work.

Hmm, do you have the Node Wrangler addon turned on? Its built into Blender, so you can just turn it on in the user preferences.

Hmm that's weird. If you add the Mesh Extra objects addon in the user preferences, it should be there when you press Shift A, and go to mesh.

Uhh hey! I'm a 14 y/o kido tryna learn unity. soo I need rocks for my project and I have some qustions to ask! 1st - how do you save the shading? 2nd - how do you export both the model and texture to unity? pls answer it HELP ME! XP

I don't use unity, so I don't know for sure, but here is what I do know: Your going to need to lower the topology of the mesh, so that is it, Low Poly. Games don't work very well with highly detailed models. So you could either model a lower poly rock, or you could apply all of the modifiers, and then add a decimate modifier, and lower the topology with that, and then apply the modifier. And modifiers only work in Blender, so you will need to apply any modifiers, before exporting the model to unity. You also will need to bake the textures into texture maps, so that they will work with unity. I have a tutorial on how to do this here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7-mmqmIqs-yoGw.html

yeah it is a bit high poly. you could lower the topology by adding the decimate modifier.
