Glen is back with some more tips and tricks! This time, we're taking a look at using epoxy putty to create realistic fabrics for use as tarps, stowage, and any other fabrics for your model kits! With a small amount of effort, glen rolls out a sheet of putty, drapes it across the model, and leaves it to set. Once fully hardened, you can easily sand and paint, making for dynamic and natural looking materials! These techniques are what we use to make our display models pop, and Glen is always happy to share his secrets! Click on the links below for more information on the specific items we check out.

Hello sir! just a random thing I just used this product a few days ago, aside from talcum powder you guys can also use water to prevent it from sticking to your hands and fingers, you just dab your fingers in a bit of water so it doesn't stick. You guys can also try brushing it with water to make it extra smooth. I'm going to try using talcum powder too it looks to be such a good technique!

Well done man, thank you so much for sharing. So what is the diffrence between smooth finish and quick type ?
@MetroHobbiesAus
@MetroHobbiesAus 7 ай бұрын
Hello! The Quick type putty is what you would want if you were looking to do more moulding and shaping. The Smooth finish is something you could apply once you have your desired shape/mould to give it that smooth finish. You can also use the smooth finish on small cracks and gaps as you can sand it back and give it a good polish.

Will these tarps come off the model easily after drying?
@MetroHobbiesAus
@MetroHobbiesAus 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Eli, I'm happy to say that these tarps should come off the model relatively easily as long as you place a fair amount of talcum powder on the model prior to applying the tarp. We would also recommend taking care when removing it. I hope that helps!

I just tried the smooth epoxy putty and it was quite stiff and hard to mold together. It finally mixed and am now waiting for it to cure. I didnt find any expiration date on the box, but maybe it is usable after a few years??

Hello, Epoxy putty has a shelf life of at least 12 months, stored correctly it might last a lot longer. Might just depend on how long you have had that one and if it has been kept cool an dry for that period :)

Can you apply Tamiya Epoxy Putty smooth or quick type again when the first layer is fully dried?
@MetroHobbiesAus
@MetroHobbiesAus 9 ай бұрын
Hi Starscream8163, you can however you would need to make sure they are light coats. If you re-apply too heavy it will reactivate the under layer.

Is it bendable after it cured?
@MetroHobbiesAus
@MetroHobbiesAus Жыл бұрын
Hi there, this method is designed to be sculptured and left to set in whatever shape you intended rather than being bendable. It would likely tear/snap rather than bending if pressure is applied. Hope that helps!
