Hi Thea Sinclaire! Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that! I would recommend cutting your rebatch and letting it cure for a couple of weeks. During that time, the excess water will evaporate and harden those bars up. If that soap is still soft, you can rebatch it again. =) Also, you can use our Fragrance Calculator to find out exactly how much essential oil to add to your batch: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/use-fragrance-calculator/

Thank you for your answer. My batch was very, very stiff, so I guess it was the cold water I put in it. After I unmolded it and sliced it though, a miracle happened! It looked great!! I was so excited! I also watched the video again and noticed I miss that the double boiler was covered during the melting. I also got the idea that it took longer than 1 hr. in the crock pot for it to melt, even though no other time was mentioned. Well, now I think I can try it again with success! Thanks again!

Hi Ann Marie, When doing rebatch soap, what is the estimated time to let it harden?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 8 жыл бұрын
It depends on how much water you added to the mix! If it's a small amount, the soap should be ready to cut in a day or two. If it's fairly wet, it may need 3-5 days or more. Just make sure the soap is firm to the touch when you unmold and cut it. That way you won't get any dents or drag marks. =)

I only have one silicone mold and if I want to unmold them quickly can I freeze the soaps right after pouring? Will that harden them up sufficiently to get out in one piece then leave to dry on a rack?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Megan! Absolutely! Freezing those soaps will help them unmold quicker. After you take them out of the freezer, I would recommend letting them dry on a rack. This will allow them to thaw and dry out completely. =)

***** Thanks do you have a tutorial on diluting liquid soap paste? I bought the high sudsing liquid soap paste from Brambleberry and not sure how to dilute it. The dilution rate on the site states 4:1 so it's 4 parts soap paste to 1 part water? Or the other way? At which point do you add the salt solution or crothix? After dilution is complete or we can add salt solution when the soap is boiling in the pot? Can I use guar gum to thicken it? How do I use it for laundry soap?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
Megan Xi Hi Megan! We don't have a tutorial, but thank you for the suggestion! To dilute your soap paste, we recommend using a large pot so your pot will be half full when you're done. When the water is boiling, add the paste and stir thoroughly. Keep in mind that this can take up to eight hours depending on how much paste you're diluting at one time. When the soap paste is fully dissolved it's ready to use. Let the liquid soap cool and add your fragrance or colorant (or both). The dilution rate is 4 parts water to 1 part soap. If you want your soap a little thicker, you can decrease that dilution rate to 3:1. You can also use the crothix or salt solution. You can add that after the soap is fully incorporated into the water. We haven't used guar gum, so I'm not exactly sure! I would recommend making a small test batch to be sure. =) We have a great tutorial for three types of laundry soap you may like. You can find that here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/home-crafts/three-diy-laundry-soap-recipes/

I’m very new in soap making and haven’t done anything yet. I want to make the most natural soap for my family. Which one would be more natural soap the one: that made from the rebatch base from brambleberry or the soap from organic melt and pour soap base form brambleberry?

*I want to maximize medicinal, color and mint fragrant properties of herbal- infused superfat and plant extract. Can rebatching be a solution?* Thought of initially cold processing soap with slight water discount (or hot with regular water amt) and WITHOUT superfat or medicinal extract. Then, after the soap cures apx 2 weeks afterwards, I'd rebatch and add superfat and fresh herbal extract at apx 49deg Celsius. I hope to avoid any degrading effects that the NaOH and heat may have on the properties I mentioned above. *Would this be a sure way of achieving my objective* or is there a faster and equally safe way? Any thing else I should consider? Must rebatching use hot (versus cold) processed soap to save time? Thanks

Is that similar to using soap flakes/powder where you only add water to it to make the soap and what would you do if it's to wet and you don't have anything to heat it so it will dry faster in a mold?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 8 жыл бұрын
The rebatch process is different than that! It involves melting the shredded soap base and putting it in a mold. You do add a bit of water to help the soap melt and mix a bit more easily. It's a really fun process. =) You may also like melt and pour soap! It involves melting a soap base in the microwave, customizing it with scent and color and pouring into a mold. Rebatching wouldn't take away the scent, but you can rebatch the soap with equal amounts of a soap you do like the scent of! That will help mask some of the scent. You can do equal parts of soap, or double the amount of soap with a scent you like. =) You can also use our unscented rebatch bases and add more fragrance when it's cooked: www.brambleberry.com/Rebatch-Bases-C14.aspx Find out how much to add with our Fragrance Calculator: www.brambleberry.com/Pages/Fragrance-Calculator.aspx You'll want to put in only the unscented soap weight so you don't over scent your soap!

So I am rebatching some soap I made for my baby (due this Halloween!) and was wondering if anyone knew about the chemistry of adding honey to rebatch soap. I have seen recipes online that say you can add way more than one would to an original recipe, up to 20% the weight of the soap. Does this actually work and does it still increase lather when introduced into a rebatch? (I'm rebatching not because anything's truly wrong, it just set super fast in the intricate molds and the bees and flowers are all sort of chipped so turning them into plain bars. Also, it's a 35% coconut oil, 5% castor, 40% shea butter and 20% jojoba at a 7% superfat, with sugar and salt added to the lye water and a little honey added at trace. I needed to keep the coconut oil kinda high otherwise it doesn't lather in our hard water, so it is a tad too cleansing I think for baby skin and would benefit from some extra oil added to the rebatch. I also want to keep it lathering good thus the question about extra honey. If this was just for a regular person and not an infant I wouldn't be this finicky about the properties - it came out super hard and very moisturizing so I would definitely use the recipe again as is...though definitely in a plain mold next time!)

Soap Queen, please help me! I recently purchased the Cocoa Butter Rebatch Base from Bramble Berry, because I really want to try rebatching...however, no matter what I do, I can't seem to melt the soap to the mashed potatoes stage. The farthest I can get is melting it into little clumps that are somewhat soft, but are hard enough that they stay mostly separated in the pan. They stick together if I mold them in my hands. If I try to stir the base, the clumps just alternate between sticking together and falling apart. I'm not sure if I'm describing it well... I start off by putting about 1/4 lb base into my double boiler, along with 1/3 tbsp water. I tried adding extra water (about 2 tbsp more little by little), and extended the time (2 hrs later, no change). It just refuses to melt past this clumpy stage! This also happened to me when I tried melting just a regular bar of soap from the grocery store (grated of course). I don't know what I could be doing wrong. I want to be a regular customer at your site but if I can't even get past the first step I don't know how that will ever happen for me. :(

I am sorry about that! I think that batch needs a bit more liquid. We have found more water helps it mix together smoothly! I would recommend adding another 1-2 tablespoons to start with, then continue until the soap is more fluid. Stirring frequently helps as well! It does take quite a bit of elbow grease to break up those clumps so they heat evenly. =)

I watched this video 3 times, but my first re-batches did not ever get to the consistency as the video one did. I added so much water they will never dry out! I tried the crock pot for 1 hr. 15 min. on low and the double boiler for 40-45 min. and stirred until my arm felt like it was going to fall off. It only got like very stiff mashed potatoes and all I could make were soap balls if I squished it hard. What did I do wrong???

i had a soft cp soap how can i harden it? could i add stearic to it or will the rebatch make it better?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
+samantha nicholson Hi there! While stearic acid can help harden a cold process soap, it won't have the same effect on rebatch soap. Rebatch soap has already saponified, or turned into soap, so the stearic acid won't turn into soap and may not help harden it. Instead, I would recommend rebatching your soap with equal amounts of a hard recipe. Those two recipes should mix and help give you a firmer bar. =) Our Basic Rebatch is a good option, as it has coconut and palm oils for firming properties: www.brambleberry.com/Grated-Rebatch-Soap-Base-Basic-P4540.aspx

@soapqueentv Thank you for this information. I plan to start with melt and pour soaps and rebatch soaps but then I want to move to cold process. Can cold process be made in the microwave? I have one of the new glass ceramic stoves and I'm wondering if lye would damage the stovetop.

Hello, Soap Queen! Nice to meet you. I am so glad I found your channel. I am loving your videos! I am a total beginner and I can't wait to try this project. I need to buy one of your wooden soap molds first. I am assuming one of your less costly loaf molds would not work because this rebatch gets too hot?

Hi I have a question can you use any acid liquid or power form to make soap for your oils and water base (or )is there a brand name that you recommend for your soap?

I would recommend pure sodium hydroxide lye! If it has any additives it can do odd things in soap. Our lye is in flake form, which helps prevent the lye from sticking to your container. =) Sodium hydroxide lye: www.brambleberry.com/Sodium-Hydroxide-Lye-P3037.aspx

Can you rebatch a slightly lye heavy soap? If so, does it still need to cure for 4-6 weeks after rebatching?

You can but it will still be lye heavy. We recommend shredding and using them for laundry soap instead. www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/home-crafts/three-diy-laundry-soap-recipes/

Could you melt rebatch soap in the microwave? And could you use unscented soap from the store to do this with?
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 7 жыл бұрын
Soap from the store is not intended to be melted, so I wouldn't recommend it. Microwaves can also do odd things. It's best to melt cold process soap or rebatch bases in a double boiler. =) Rebatch bases: www.brambleberry.com/Rebatch-Bases-C14.aspx

my soap has this yellow spots just like DOS but its not from the oil expiration date but from the humidity I guess. Can I rebatch it? I thought I could put in some antioxidant since I didn't have it when I had this one 4 weeks ago.
@bramble-berry
@bramble-berry 9 жыл бұрын
Natália Cristina Even with rebatching, the soap will still be rancid. So, it will still have the yellow spots and the unpleasant smell. Humidity definitely contributes to DOS. You may want to consider investing in a dehumidifier. That will keep your soaps nice and dry, making them last longer. =) Read more in the Dealing with Dreaded Orange Spots post: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/dreaded-orange-spots/
