This recipe/video is for Fluffy Rice and Peas using BASMATI Rice.
Suggested Rice Ratios:
- 1 cup LONG GRAIN rice to 2 cups liquid
- 1 cup PARBOILED rice to About 2 1/2 cups liquid
- 1 cup BASMATI rice to About 1 1/2 cup liquid
However we're cooking and extra ingredient along with the rice. (The beans) So aside from the suggested ratio...we need that extra liquid😁
.
.
.
Other Recipe notes:
- Using this recipe you'll get tender and fluffy rice. If you prefer moist rice use more liquid.
- Additon of Sugar is optional
- After boiling or pressure cooking the red peas there was about 3 1/2 cups liquid left in the pot. That's enough. Don't add more.
- After you stir in the rice the first time, do not stir again during cooking
Entrees that go well with the Rice and Peas:
OVEN BBQ WINGS
• OVEN BBQ CHICKEN WINGS
SWEET N TIPSY OVEN JERK
• Sweet n Tipsy Oven Jer...
BROWN STEW CHICKEN • Video

I just made this for dinner and it was delicious! Wasn't quite exact because I don't cook with seasoned salt and I've never seen FlavoRice, but I found a different all-purpose seasoning and used 2 red chilis cut in half for the spice. Very easy to make! Thanks for sharing this recipe :)

One trick I use, is to measure using a wooden spoon. I allow an inch or an inch and a half of liquid starting above the rice. So, with the spoon touching the rice, the liquid should be at least one inch above the rice. I hope I explained it right.

I'm confused, please clarify...in the description it says "After boiling or pressure cooking the beans there were 3 1/2 cups of water; do not add any more...than add rice etc..." but above all of that you listed the amount of water that should be used depending on the rice being used. None of those amounts are 3 1/2 cups, so isn't that too much water...sounds like we should be taking liquid out of the pot? Looks perfect and really want to try. Thank you!!!

Because we have an extra ingredient (the kidney beans) we need a lil extra moisture.

Do you cook the peas in the water they soaked in overnight, or do you change the water?
@JerenesEats
@JerenesEats 3 жыл бұрын
Cooking them in the soaking liquid does help retain A BIT MORE colour HOWEVER if you tend to get gassy when you eat beans, it's best to drain them and use new water

I noticed that you use 3.5 cups of water. For 2 cups of rice should we use 3 cups of water or 3.5 cups of water?
@JerenesEats
@JerenesEats 3 жыл бұрын
For regular plain rice the ratio for Basmati is: 2 cups rice - 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 cups liquid We're doing Rice WITH Peas so we're using 3 1/2 cups liquid. Extra liquid because we have something extra in the pot

Dear Jerene: At 0:17 seconds. Why do they call these peas instead of beans? Is it because they want to take the air of notion away from the negativity of what beans could possibly symbolize in the way of promoting flatulence?
