I made 3 huge boulders for my front yard. One that is standing upright and 2 that lay flat and off to the side. It makes a nice looking little flowerbed in the middle pocket. My wife told me it was a dumb idea. I put iron filings in it and the rust wash looks awesome. We went to a huge outdoor garden supply store and they had giant boulders there. They were 2,000 dollars a piece. My wife finally realized why i made my own rocks.

This is the best video series out there! Can you please tell me what the brand of morter you used as well as the styrofoam morter you used? Thank you
@fauxrock
@fauxrock 2 жыл бұрын
Mortar mix is a 1-part cement to 3-parts sand. The foam mix is also a 1 to 3 part mix as well.

Good stuff. Learning a lot. You responded to viewers in a couple of questions regarding “foam.” What is “foam”? Is it Styrofoam? I don’t get it. What is the “foam” you mention in your mixture please. Please be specific.
@fauxrock
@fauxrock Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the positive feedback and I appreciate you watch my video. The foam is called poly styrene. I usually get it ground up from people who have Waste cuttings that want to sell it to people like us that make cement with it.

How strong are these rocks? I'm wanting to make some climbing rocks for my two pet goats who are both around 100lbs each give or take. Would I need to get actual rebar for my rocks? Also I'm probably going to use regular concrete.
@fauxrock
@fauxrock 2 жыл бұрын
Rocks made this way are unbelievably strong. I use mesh rather than rebar as it’s longer last and just as effective. You would find the use of concrete rather difficult as it doesn’t throw out indoor stick well when trying to make a rock

What kind of Bondo and hydro seal do you use
@fauxrock
@fauxrock 2 жыл бұрын
I really don’t use Bondo in making rock. I did just do some Bondo work on a truck fender. The hydrocele mix that I utilize is a proprietary mixture which I’m basically only giving out to people who attend my training. I’m sure you can locate some hydrocele in the marketplace for your projects

Why bonding agent and hydro seal as two layers? Just spitballing here but as it's a very thin layer, couldn't this be done in a single layer?
@fauxrock
@fauxrock Жыл бұрын
The acrylic bonding agent need to dry prior to the placement of the hydro sealer to create an enhanced bond

@@fauxrock Gotcha. I just assumed you could do it like those water damage type cement repairs where you do it in one go. But doing it separate would be much neater.

so the color moss type of finish is fake? or it is mother nature work? I am sorry that my question was not more specific...by the way thank you for taking time and answer my questions
@fauxrock

No worries on the questions… I cultured the moss to grow on the rock, but I also have processes to synthesize the look of moss on rock.

I been taught that leaving the rebar exposed inside will lead to rusting overtime and cause cracking of the rock. Is this a concern to you?
@fauxrock
@fauxrock 2 жыл бұрын
No it’s a non issue as long as you aren’t utilizing the rebar to create the structure of the rock. In my case the rebar is a temporal form to create shape. The mix that we use has fiber reinforcement which we applied to the expanded metal it is on the rebar. Another aspect would be the rock itself isn’t that big in size which limits the need for structure. I will admit on larger rocks we have always left access that we could mud the inside to gain more strength as needed
