It made me think of Jim Rose too! I’ve been studying a video where he demonstrates the movement of these double rope joints but doesn’t show the construction process. Looked to me like instead of drilling holes all the way through the limbs and threading rope through, he drilled cavities for the ropes and glued them in…if that makes sense. Arlee thank you for laying out the process so clearly. As usual! 🙏

Hello Nell Thanks for your reply. A few years back I reconstructed ‘Roddy’by studying the video KZfaq footages, it took me months to work it out. The double rope joints were held in place by thin pins which were put in from the sides which worked well enough; the hardest thing was to construct the controller, again by studying the vids and a on line drawing found on the net. Stringing up the puppet was quite difficult taking weeks and weeks but the result was worth the effort now owning a puppet that looks and behaves like the original as designed by Jim Rose, a gifted and incredible man!

What an incredible journey that must have been - and how tiny those pins, to hold the small ropes! Would love to see your Roddy if you ever feel like posting a video or pictures!
