Umm, that's colcannon using kraut instead of sauteed cabbage lol. Oh, and saute bacon, remove to plate, drain some fat but keep 2-6 tblsp, then saute the onions and cabbage. Darn good eats!!!! Been making that for about 50 yrs now, at least. Even better, grate a lot of cheddar, cook lasagna noodles and layer it all to make lazy pierogi!

Great tip! Could you use cut up russet potatoes, too?
@sandrah7512
@sandrah7512 11 ай бұрын
They likely wouldn't hold their smashed shape as well and because russets are usually much bigger, there would be less skin surface to potato flesh ratio. And because the russet's skins are a bit thicker, they may just separate from the flesh rather than split apart with the flesh when smashed. 🤷🏼‍♀

@@sandrah7512it's more expensive, but you can buy baby potatoes with thinner skins
@sandrah7512
@sandrah7512 11 ай бұрын
@@woodstream6137Questions like this typically arise because someone's already got some ingredient in their cupboard and they want to shoehorn it into the recipe dropped in front of them rather than seek out one that might be better suited to that ingredient. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Really, if they are going to do what you're suggesting (and they're available), why not just buy the red potatoes the recipe calls for? 🤷🏼‍♀
@moe2377

Made these today but the potatoes did not cook evenly. Had to add a couple more hours and chop up the ones that were not cooking. In the end, they did taste great but next time I'm going to try to keep a single layer of potatoes so that they are all touching the hot part of the crock pot.

It was used. This an excerpt from a longer TV broadcast that originally aired on Pluto TV. The gist of Julia at Home is Julia preparing an entire meal for her family. In the original full length episode, she also makes Batter Fried Chicken and Quick Collard Greens with Hot Pepper Vinegar, both of which make a very brief appearance (3:16) at the end of this YT segment. The bacon went in with the collards and that recipe will likely be featured in another YT video fragment, much like this potato recipe and the fried chicken video which was added to the channel back in May.
