It would be interesting to see this with the rotating shaft stabilised with magnets on either end to remove all friction. Really good video.

I was quite surprised that you did not get the idea of this motor, even having such a nice model. It will NEVER work when you illuminate it from all directions. Try to cover big part of the motor so that one of the solar cell always gives you a higher voltage than all the others. Otherwise you will have always static magnetic fields and you dont want that.

Nice work. And to work it needs light coming from one side only. Light on the other side cancels the force.

Could you take your arms Point them in slightly to point the magnetic field towards the center and then stack another one over the top of that to get rid of the point of contact. ?

if u dont use the magnet in the middle on the bottom will the Mendocino motor work jw? what if u put also another magnet on top like the bottom will it spin faster?

Good solar panel can be get from Ikea product "Solarvet" which is garden LED light for tree decoration with battery inside. Ikea have very good quality components because they must comply with harsh euro standards.

"harsh euro standards" lol! It isn't "harsh" at all, that trash standard actually got invented to kill off of what has remained of the soviet union standard. Quality is absolutely optional, if not illegal by unwritten law. Last "quality" existed in the 1950's. Currently trash is piling up in masses, at nightmarish speeds. Soon it will come all back to you. And when you realize what you have invested into, you'll cry your eyes out. But there will be no one alive to forgive you...

Why couldn't you place a magnet on each end of the stator and an opposing one on each end held up by the anvil stand on one end rather have two anvil stands which hold a magnet opposing the magnets on each end of the rotor and suspend it in mid air without touching anything thereby reducing that small amount of friction? Would this be possible?

This is not possible with ferromagnetism. have a look at the Earnshaw-Theorem.

I build this 2 times now and it's not working , it's driving me crazy, I'm using 0.2 mm wires with 150 turns I'm suspecting the wire thickness ! , do you know what is the relation between wire thickness and number of turns ?
