Suppose the battery inside your mobile phone is of 4000 mAh. It takes about 40 hours of 100 mA to charge fully. As this is an emergency gadget, use it only when you have no other better option. About 15 to 30 minutes should be enough to turn on the mobile phone to make a few calls or send messages. You do not need to put the solar panel under direct sun light to get 6V. Normal daylight is sufficient.

You need a much bigger panel! A small 100mah won't do. You need at least a 1000mah panel to do anything substantial.

All mobiles have built in charge control. So connecting a 5V panel as a source for mobile charging is no issue. 5W the panel's ability to supply power. This means the panel can give upto 1A current under good sunlight. The charge controller will limit the current as the mobile battery gets charged and when fully charged it will not take any current, like all of us that we cannot eat when we are fully fed.

I did it. Its not working just shows 5v output but smartphone doesn't charge. Rather it discharges my phone. Even I applied 12v input to 7805. It doesn't charge my smartphone
