How to Make SVG Files with Inkscape: The One Course You Need

I know a ton of you want to learn how to make SVG files. Well, I have a treat for you today! I found a course using a free program called Inkscape to make digital cut files. Since I personally don't have instructions for creating SVG files, I thought this might be the next best thing! Making SVG files is actually way more complicated than you think so I wanted to find a comprehensive course that will walk you through each element in detail. I really think I have found that with SVG & Me! I hope this helps those of you that may want to launch your small business by selling your own SVG files or putting your own designs on merchandise.

I Love svg & me. Erica Martin is a very good teacher and she updates things as needed for everyone! She answers questions and the fb group is AMAZING. If I can do it, any one can. It was worth every penny and I was shocked at what you get with the membership, Its amazing. I learned more than I even thought I was capable of.

I just want to comment that I took this course and I absolutely loved it. I took several other courses before signing up for SVG & Me and this one is light years ahead of others. I too highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn Inkscape to use with their Cricut or other cutting machines. I am NOT an affiliate so there is no advantage to me with my recommendation. The course is just that good. BTW - Great review of the course Angie!

First of all, I love your videos! You explain things so well and I always learn a lot! I just wanted to ask you a question about this SVG course. I have been looking into learning Inkscape and how to design SVG's and I stumbled on this video. I have looked at a few different courses and this one appeals to me the most with how it is set up. I was just wondering if you knew if she updates this course?? Since at the time you made this video, it was a couple years ago. Just wondering if she updates things if there are even things that have changed. Anyway, I would appreciate any insight you have on this, thanks so much!

I've been considering this course and then found your video. Thank you for all this information. I do have a question: Will I be able to access this course from more than one computer? I sometimes use my desktop and sometimes use my laptop. Will that work?

Angie this may be a stupid question. But what if you can not draw? I barely can draw a stick person. But I want to make things that I do not see on on Etsy, cricut or creative fabrica. I'm understanding there are workarounds if you can not draw by using shapes. I have business edition and a cameo 4 that are just sitting and I just steer clear because I'm comfortable with design space but I have all this equipment and need to do something with it.

You can always purchase the SVG files that you want. Or using the method talked about here you would use inkscape and your computer to "draw". It is not like drawing by hand at all.

I have seen you a few times before (forget where) and at some point subbed to your YT channel. I value your opinion. This sounds like a great course. My only problem is I've been all through the site, including the blog link and there's no way to contact the person offering the course. I don't use a cricut (and won't be)....I just want to learn how to make SVG's (the actual SVG and how to design a unique SVG). Would this be useful to me? or only if I am planning on using a cricut etc.

I go to images in design space and type in square or rectangle. Then check the box on the left for free images. There is one in there you can use already!

@@AngieHolden Thanks. I tried it, but if the width and height are adjusted differently, the corners are no longer rounded - same with the rectangle. I need to be able to take a rectangle and round the corners to a certain size. I'll see if I can make it in another program and import it. Thanks again!

Oh got it! I wasn't thinking about anything specific. For that, it is not super easy in Design Space. It would be combining squares and circles and slicing and welding. If you have another program, probably easier.

i dont see anywhere for the drop down menu to get the links, usually its under the title of the video, or the channel name or up near the like, save buttons. I don't see any links anywhere. I'd love to get your links in your videos

They are in the description for the video. If you are on computer, click show more under the video. If you are on mobile, click the arrow to expand or swipe up on the video depending on how you are watching.

Angie your honest opinion: for a newbie, none skills, what would be better to join to learn how to create SVGs, adobe illustrator is it inkscape (forgot what you said had a fee as well)??? Thxs

Inkscape is free and Illustrator you will pay a monthly fee. It is just preference really!

Hi Angie I dont have the newest version of Inkscape, if I delete my current version and install newer version, will I lose my saved designs? This course sounds great.

I am totally not sure. You should be able to save the files and open them in the new version. Can you install both versions at first to make sure it works?

Yes. A computer or laptop should be fine! Remember you have the 7 days to ask for a refund as well!

When you say a Mac or pc is needed does that exclude an iPad?

Correct. Looks like there is not an iPad option for Inkscape that I could find! Sorry! I draw on my iPad using Procreate then import later to make my SVGs but I didn't see where she discussed that in this course so I am not sure if it would be beneficial for you.

As she says in the video, you will need a computer. There is no app for Inkscape.
