I might actually do that. Btw, have you tried using black silicone?
@Reptiliatus
@Reptiliatus 7 жыл бұрын
Black silicone works great! The only issue there is that finding s1 or pet safe silicone in that colour can be a bigger challenge unless its those small tubes of expensive aquarium silicone you can find at a proper pet store.

I am extreamly interested in making a free range enclosure throughout my room for my chameleon, and these vines are perfect! The natural look is amazing. Would these vines be good (long term) to be kept out in a room? I would I like to string these from his cage to a tree to another tree, etc etc. Do they need to be maintained in anyway? Thank you for being so creative!

us! You may not recognize the name (or obviously the silly profile picture) but I came into your store today and bought several supplies for a dart frog viva rum. I just want to thank you very much for the expertise and help you offered me! I will definitely have to try this out but I was wondering if I could have an email or contact just incase I have questions or concerns because from the answers and tips you gave me and my family today I know I could count on you for the real deal since you are a "herpthousiast"as well as a collecter of dart frogs! Love the videos! Have a nice day!

Love love Love this. Love the look of your model terrarium and the vines fit so naturally. I wanna make these for a Royal Python room. This one loves to climb so I want them to be able to climb on these (they're going to do it anyway, whether they should or not lol), so do you think reinforcing the vines by wrapping layers upon layers of burlap on top of one another would make it strong enough to hold the weight of a snake that could get up to 8 pounds? And any ideas for adhering securely if the terrarium putty isn't a strong enough hold?
@toekie3352
@toekie3352 7 жыл бұрын
I had the same idea to make vines for my Chameleon, didnt thought of burlap thats actually way easier. I will add wire in the center of the vines because i think the wont be strong enough to hold m chameleon without the wire. Great video now i know my idea works, thanks!

I love the idea of this but,will they rot or cause any other issues in a very humid environment?
@RoySATX
@RoySATX 7 жыл бұрын
Natural burlap is quite resistant to rot, but rot it will. For my herp tanks where humidity is high I use this same technique using a natural-looking, soft nylon rope. I can't remember where I bought the rope I'm using now, Home Depot maybe, but it looks and feels like organic hemp rope! I unravel one end as I apply the silicone/peat moss and it ends up looking exactly like a vine or root branching off! They last nearly forever and don't mold or rot.

Where do you get the peat moss soil/substrate? All the ones I can find have fertilizers or are literally just moss, not soil-like.

Go to the hardware or gardening store and look for sphagnum peat moss, it usually comes in kind of a compressed bag.

Doesn't seem to work with mine ! My burlap is a lot thicker than the one you have in the video ..I've tried break no it up abit but frays a lot
@Reptiliatus
@Reptiliatus 6 жыл бұрын
You really need to twist hard and work the silicone in and keep adding more and more of it as you twist and kneed it into the burlap. If that doesn't work, you can also use rope. Remember that the fray's actually provide the vines with a natural look so don't worry about such things too much! :)

Great video but you should never use peat moss you should use coco fibre instead
@Reptiliatus
@Reptiliatus 7 жыл бұрын
Danny Fletton there is absollutely nothing wrong with using peat moss. It has a better, less strand-like texture than coco fibre. Peat moss also naturally lowers ph levels. Just make sure you aren't using peat moss that contains fertilizers. Curious, why do you think peat moss is bad?
