Idea: Buy 2 or more plastic storage bins.
Hack one in half and drill lots of holes for a massive scoop (1/2 inch diameter holes is my favorite size. Use a Blade type bit that cuts the circumference of the holes and Not the typical corkscrew shaped drill bits)
Add a handle and you have yourself an amazingly simple sifting litter box that requires no heavy lifting or squatting or kneeling. Better and cheaper and faster than any litter box I have ever used or seen. What else can sift through 40lbs of litter in less than 30 seconds!?!?

lesnickt Thanks, I did contact them but they took too long to respond. I also should have contacted them sooner sooo... My bad too I guess. Litter box market is just too flooded. Too many companies passed up a great idea... Or one of them is stealing the idea from me as we speak because a simple dad like me poses no threat of retaliation. Can't continue to fund this project anymore so now it's on KZfaq. Kickstarter was not going to work because shipping a box like this alone is more than $50... Yikes! Did everything I could besides selling my house and car. Don't have the guts for that. Family comes first. Please share the video to help other people. Maybe someday the better, marketable version of this will be available.

+Byromie what a brilliant idea! I also have ideas for simple products and have no clue how to begin. I am a newly single mom with a media background so I know I can sell it, but development and patent is out of my league. I suggest having the companies you pitch with your litter box idea make them signs non disclosure agreement so they are less likely to steal your idea. Also, ask the question if they have many products in the self sorting category. Best wishes!

Kater Caters to Cats I use wood pellets, too, and I don't think this sifter would work with them because the sawdust would fall right through the holes and in with the litter that's still in pellet form. So you'd be getting rid of only the solid waste with a sifter like this ... but you also,need to dispose of the sawdust, which can't absorb any more urine than it already has. However, this sifting litter box is such a great idea that I may have to think about switching to a clumping walnut litter or something similar (as long as it isn't clay or silica based, I'll consider it).

I looked at the Luup reviews and I think with a sifting litter box, having vertical or near vertical sides is an essential part of easy cleanup. The plastic storage totes achieve that. I like this setup. My favorite bins that I've been using for almost a decade now changed recently and the new plastic seems to absorb the litter smell in a terribly unpleasant way. I'm shopping for a new style of bin now and can't wait to try out your design.

Whew! This is an amazing idea that you have come up with. I am always so grateful for innovative people like you who are gifted in such crafty ways. The only thing I don't understand is how the handle works on the sifting section for a swinging door set up. Can you explain this for me, thank you.
@Byromie
@Byromie 4 жыл бұрын
So sorry I'm responding late. I decided to go back through my messages because I've missed some as well as some being sent to my needs approval Spam box. The handle is placed high enough that the flapping door is unaffected. The sifting basket is cut in the same way that the door is cut about a little larger to ensure that the door doesn't catch on it. The door is cut a bit smaller than the opening entirely for the same reason. Nothing gets in the way of the door and it's optional. I no longer use the flapping door. It's just open

@Byromie
@Byromie 3 жыл бұрын
Right on man. Your cat will love the box that it's so large too. Almost all litter boxes are too small. A house cat (if allowed outdoors) will scratch and pull dirt in a 18-20 inch diameter circle when pooping,... and peeing too sometimes. In some circumstances it may be easier to dump the contents of the sifting scoop on the surface of the litter and then return with a hand scoop for more accurate and precise Scooping into a small trashcan or bag. Simply skimming the clumps and poop right off the top as well as any tiny kernels that may have gone through the large sifting holes. Small kernels will always Sift out last and on top The whole process of using this box is about taking advantage of leverage through the tilting motion. Makes everything so easy. Even when the box is full of common heavy clumping clay litter 😻

I posted this on one of your other videos as well: Excellent! You're a genius! I wonder if this could work for my cats. I have 12 cats and 3 giant / long Sterilite containers. I'm SO tired of scooping 5 times a day and tired of layers of dust in cat box room. Plus we have to bag and haul away about 50 + pounds of waste in a week. We spend maybe around $600 per year on clumping cat litter! I am thinking of trying a cheaper alternative, wood pellets. It would be awesome if you could do a video trying your sifting system with the wood pellets for litter. It would just be opposite. You would throw out what is in the bottom pan. The pee sawdust could easily disintegrate in my fields, unlike clay litter which becomes a catbox mountain and beacon to roaming Tom cats.
@Byromie
@Byromie 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, a couple people have mentioned using wood pallets. I've never used wood pallets, but I'm willing to give it a try. A quick internet search tells me that some cats require getting used to pellets. Training my cats to use a different litter on top of busy life schedule... It will take a while to get a video made. But I will definitely give it a shot. Your extra big long boxes may be difficult to tilt with the weight of clay litter? Also you would need to spend quite a bit more time drilling holes to make the larger baskets for such larger boxes. But I think my system would work none the less. ***If you don't already, try tilting your boxes simply to help expose where the clumps are. Then you can find and scoop them up quicker.*** Another idea might be to drill holes into a sturdy plastic shovel. Probably too dusty using a big shovel though. Maybe try Dr Else's cat litter. It's best bang for buck litter I have found for clumping litter. Not that dusty
@Byromie
@Byromie 5 жыл бұрын
Had time to do more in depth research on pellets. Wow! I must say I am super interested now. 40lbs of wood pellet horse bedding is between $6 and $10!😮 Talk about super major savings if I like this stuff! Also all the talk about it being more friendly to health and environment. I will need to build a new system. Urinated pellets turn to dust and fall to the bottom. To create a system to sift out poop vs urinated-saw-dust... A 3 stage system must be made. 1. A solid box 2. A fine sifter to allow the saw dust to pass 3. A more open sifter to pull out poop and leave the pellets. I'll work on something. It'll take some time But... Lots of people use a sterilite bin with small holes in another bin and scoop the poo. Also others are using sifting boxes made with small holes

@Byromie
@Byromie 4 жыл бұрын
This might work. But I really have doubts about the strength of an assembled box when used with heavy litters, such as traditional clay. The design needs to stand up to continual use of 40 lbs of litter.
@mmprendergast
@mmprendergast 6 жыл бұрын
Could you find some way to reinforce where the handle meets the scoop? It looks as though it would break relatively quickly. Another thing to add is if you use this system with wood pellets, you could physically remove the poop with a hand scoop, then lift the big scoop out removing all the GOOD litter pellets, leaving the saw dust on the bottom, put the handled scoop into a clean bucket and then clean out the other bucket. Store the cleaned out bucket under the one with the litter for the next time to clean. Anyone try it that way? I'm thinking of doing it!
@Byromie
@Byromie 6 жыл бұрын
No experience with wood pellets. I've built about 5 of these litter Cube boxes (oldest one is probably about 2 years old). None have broke at the handle, or anywhere else for that matter. But if wanting more secure handle attachment, I might suggest a larger diameter wooden dowel so that a larger screw can be added with a washer for more surface area attachment
@gaylescovel7308

I like this idea of yours too! I too use the wood pellets. I also bleach out the tub every so often. So having two isnt a bad storage solution (extra one sitting underneath, my doors would have to be the same tho). Mine has a front entrance door so the scoop part would have to be at the other end. Btw, useing a blowdryer to warm the plastic makes for easier cutting. May make for easier drilling too. Just a thought to share.

Very nice idea! Not sure why so much kitty litter though. Vets recommend one-two inches worth.
@Byromie
@Byromie 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I've seen anywhere from 2 to 4 inches being recommended. It depends on the litter used and the size of cats or even number of cats. Though 1 litter box for every cat is recommended +1, there will often be multiple cats using one box. I keep my boxes large and in charge to prevent cats from digging to the bottom. If cat pee reaches the bottom more depth is needed, a larger box is needed, and/or a different litter (mix) is needed. I also like to show just how much weight and volume of litter my design can handle, which is significantly greater and faster than anything available.

I'm currently making this only difference is I put the hole on the side left the plastic attached to make a door should work just fine if not heck it was 7 bucks. I'm thinking of putting a car freshener on the lid to help with smell but I'm unsure about that yet.
@Byromie
@Byromie Жыл бұрын
Sounds pretty good. Pending the size of your cats the lid may force them to scrunch or bow their head inside. One of my cats is a BIG girl and I don't use lids anymore except on my biggest box with an opening that is 3/4 the length of the lid to force the cats to climb into the remaining lid as a litter trap before jumping down 😁. When making a flappy door you just have to make sure it moves without obstruction. 😺

heavensentmj09 it takes a lot of energy to drill the holes making it, but the sifting part actually is easier than other lift and sift litter boxes. Mine is all done by tilting and leverage. Tilting the box itself AND tilting the scoop inside the box to create a gap for most of the weight of the litter to sift through before lifting. I can do it with just a finger or 2

Glad the info has been helpful 😺 I grew up on the edge of town, surrounded by desert 🏜. We had cats partly to control rodents and other pests. They rarely came indoors, but had access to the garage for food, water, shelter and love and hugs. We had a litter box in the garage, but it almost never got used. As you mentioned, why use a cramped litter box when the whole natural world is your litter box. 😻🏜Vs 😼🚽 Anyway, fast forward to today, I live in center of town, surrounded by neighbors (but still a lot of sand). 2 of my 4 cats are terrified of the outside world. The other 2 are outside most the time, except in winter. Litter Boxes suddenly became the norm in my home. All my childhood, Litter boxes were more like a cats emergency Porta potty... I actually still think of litter boxes that way, most boxes are not big enough for how cats do their business naturally outside when not constrained by a box. ... I'll have to make vid on that idea 💡

Lexi D. Making a box out of these bins will last you forever. You'll never go back. Even if you decide you don't like my giant sifter you can still use the tilting method to reveal and expose the clumps for faster removal by hand scoop... It's one of a few things that gave me the idea for my creation.

I like the idea a lot, but there's so much agitation of the litter, I can only imagine the dust kicked up each time.
@Byromie
@Byromie 7 жыл бұрын
GW Garden wife, if everything is done gradually (not necessarily slowly) then there is little dust at all. The key is tilting the scoop to expose the holes and allow gravity to work. If the scoop is lifted as a method of sifting then yes indeed there will be lots of dust. The only lifting should be to pull the poop and pee clumps out with about 1 to 2 lbs of litter if that. This also translates to Easy lifting unlike the Luuup and other terrible sifting litter boxes that require lifting EVERYTHING.

The heads of the screws will add additional length to the handle you make. You may or may-not have to make your dowel **slightly* shorter to fit inside the litter box. If you prefer that your handle does not rotate you can buy some T-Nuts and bolts that fit. T-Nuts have teeth that will be nailed through the plastic scooping basket and into the wood dowel.

@@crudolph277 check this video for a closer look at the handle I made. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7WqaNKq1sydYGw.html I have one box with this T-nut and another that rotates. Both are fine. Though I prefer a handle that doesn't move, I haven't been bothered enough by the rotating handle of the other to take the time to modify it. If not sure, you can start with just screws and then install the T-nut modification later if desired. My very first prototype was made with a narrow rectangular scrap piece of wood that I put 2 screws in each end, but was uncomfortable to hold. Lots of ways to get creative on the handle. Good luck. When using your finished Tilt-and-Sift-Litter-box. Put in only as much litter as can be sifted to one side 1. Tilt all contents into basket 2. Tilt basket initially to use the power and ease of leverage to start your lift of the sifting basket. 3. Lift the sifter slow enough to minimize agitation and the distance the litter falls. Lifting the sifting basket as the pile of sifted litter grows. If lift too fast there will be more dust 4. Dump waste 5. A traditional hand scoop might still be necessary to retrieve any tiny poop or broken clump crumbles. But these will ALWAYS conveniently Sift out last and will be on top and easy to retrieve. 6. Tilt sifted litter to one side 7. Put sifting basket back in 8. Lay litter box back down so litter is flat and even again 9. Done and repeat 👍

If you're looking at more organic/ plant based litters I would strongly recommend Garfield litter. It's made of cassava and corn and clumps better than anything I've used period.

Im not knocking this as its a nice idea but if you have a good scoop, you can clean a litter box in about the same time it takes you to do all that tilting and aligning and such. I have struggled for years with killing my back being bent over 2 litter boxes cleaning them, taking a good 5 minutes each, waiting for the litter to sift through the crappy plastic scoop I was using. Now with the correct scoop, I can be in and out as quickly as it takes you to dump yours. This is the one I use now and love it. Hopefully someone else might like it as well. Just fyi, im not affiliated with this company in any way, there are others that are made just like it, This is just the one I bought. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BFOHQEC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Darren Cole I have large metal scoop just like that too that was popular before the Teflon coated one. Thanks for sharing that link it is indeed a FANTASTIC hand scoop. I agree that hand scoops are still superior compared to systems that complicate things. But I don't think you fully realize that I sifted through ***40 lbs of litter and reset the litter box in 30 seconds. And I used extra time to show and demonstrate the scoop (turning it to face the camera) I can't search through 40lbs of litter with Any hand scoop that fast, I doubt many could. (@ home I only use maybe 30 lbs of litter) But for those, happy with a hand scoop, consider tilting your box to help expose soiled litter and to expedite treasure searching and cleaning your kitty's potty.

Byromie, / @Byromie, a problem below, please read to the end! Thank you so much for this. I immediately made a 'full sifter' by simply cutting holes with a knife in an entire plastic bin. Plopped it in the one that has no holes, good to go for a few days. I LOVE the high walls. My cat regularly flips litter out of the the doored litter box we've been using until now. No more, with the 18 gallon bin. ! Also, my medium sized dog no longer has access to poop treats. yay ! The issue: I'm unsure about adding the dowel (after I cut the bin in half), because my cat jumps up from ground level, UP over the wall, and into the dunes to do his biz. I'm worried he'll hit the dowel, which he won't see from ground level, and never jump in again. I've never built anything before - few design ideas. The best I can think of is -- set up the dowel, remove it, and screw in every time I need to sift. OR, ditch the dowel, just grab sifter by the edges. If necessary, put a few small rocks under the sifter so it's easier to grab. Any ideas? Once again, thanks for a great DIY invention. I suggest you patent (?)
@Byromie
@Byromie 3 жыл бұрын
Good to hear your Litter box is working well. The wooden dowel handle really isn't problematic to my cats. There's still plenty of room to maneuver. In fact, there's likely more room than your previous litter box even with the handle. The extra space in the box is allowing your cat to dig with less restrictions and I bet kitty is happier. 😻 Did you know that typical house cats will scratch roughly a 20 inch diameter circle when digging outdoors with no restrictions. Storage bins make the best litter boxes! If your still concerned about the handle taking up space... I'd say a large u shaped hinging handle might be best. Like a handle you would see on a bucket that is able to hinge and flip to the side.
@Byromie
@Byromie 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe also take your cat and put the kitty in the litter box after adding the dowel. This will ensure your cat sees the dowel and will be used to it before jumping in in the future. Cats often "look before they leap" anyway. My inside-outside cats always like to take a moment to look outside before bounding out the door too. Cats like to know what they are about to get into. Good luck Also, maybe someday a company will finally see and understand my litter box is the best. I had a pending patent and pitched the idea of my litter box to many companies years ago. All of them turned down the idea. 😿

Bayou-and-Bindi good questions. It's definitely not too high to jump in unless you have a very old cat or a tiny kitten or cat with disabilities. A side door can be made too. I do recommend a taller box, especially if you plan to put a lid on the box. The wooden handle is indeed lower than the cats head on the boxes in the video. My cats just stick their head up on either side. No problems, but I will choose a taller box if I make another

stealth313 my design was made as a direct result of the Three box design. The biggest problem with a 3 box design is it requires lifting of the entire box and all of its contents. Tilting requires less effort then lifting. I gave away my previous three-box model that I bought from the store because of the deep knee, back crick lifting of a full box. My design is more like a giant hand scoop that is stored in the box

1) What did you use for the handle? And how did you get it to stay in place? Is it glued in? Did you screw it in somehow? 2) I wonder: could you have used a clothes hamper for a sifter...instead of drilling holes? Might work. :) I'm definitely going to try this soon! Thank you!

briLady7 I drilled in holes for the wooden handle and screwed it in. If you want the handle not to twist you can buy this other T-nut thing. I have another video showing the handle up close. I did see a laundry basket with perfect holes, but would still require drilling holes in the bottom of the basket... But the biggest problem is that I could not find a solid plastic bin that the laundry basket would fit flush inside of 😢. So drilling still remains the best creation... Until the day a business copies my idea and produces a real product, or the day I find the means to do it on my own. *I have another idea that I believe works better, might try again someday to get this next idea to market 😉😅

Now the next piece of this puzzle is how to dispose of used cat litter. My transfer station has a compost dumpster that will take it (a local entrepreneur composts all the things we can't recycle and shouldn't throw out like pizza boxes and food). I just got two kittens so I am trying to figure out a clean system that allows me to just dump all the dirty litter into the compost but not have to deal with it smelling up my house waiting to go. So far I have used waxed sandwich bags (too small now) and I think I will get paper lunch bags and a larger all paper sack to put them in. I hate the idea of landfills being filled with so much poo and plastic used to collect it. Just some thoughts!
@Byromie
@Byromie 5 жыл бұрын
If trying to avoid plastic, try sprinkling some baking soda over the clumps. Baking soda dramatically reduces smell. Also sprinkle some in your litter box. If possible, maybe keep your dirty litter outside till disposal day. I've never used it, but I've heard there is flushable kitty litter. Again, never used it... But maybe there is a different litter and system out there for your need. Or even try training your cat to use the toilet. I've never done this either. Good luck.
@sapphirestrm
@sapphirestrm 5 жыл бұрын
That is a good idea (baking soda); otherwise I have a septic tank and can't use 'flushable litter' (another issue where it gets into the waste stream :p ) The reason I was commenting was because of the cat waste being thrown into a black plastic trash bag. Which of course everyone does so I'm not criticizing; I just wish there were better ways to deal with pet animal waste rather than throw it into the waste stream. I guess we're not there yet!! I plan to give your sifter a try!

Did you experiment with hole sizes? These 3/8 (9,5mm) holes are abnormally large compared to any cat scoop, many small clumps will be able to pass through. Usually the finest cat scoops with slots have openings of around 2mm and the wider ones are around 4mm slots which I think is already too big. 3mm openings seem ideal for normal fine clumping cat litter, some shaking is still required but it takes out all clumps. For round holes it's around 6 mm diameter, still has less than half the surface area of a 9,5mm hole. You may have chosen large holes to make it easier to lift or to avoid having to drill an enormous amount of holes, however the result seems unhygenic. The sense of smell of cats is 14 times better than that of humans so some care should be taken not to leave anything behind.
@Byromie
@Byromie 3 ай бұрын
All very good points and overall you guessed it right. But I do still use a hand scoop (not shown) Even though the holes are large, the vast majority of the small clumps that slide through will slide through LAST. The fine grains will glide through first and prevent most of the tiny clumps from going through until the end. The result is a pile of tiny clumps on the very top of the sifted litter. One quick skimming scoop of the hand shovel and they are all gone. Even a cheap dollar store scoop can easily pick up the small clumps off the top. No digging or searching required and still faster and more effective than a hand scoop by itself. The bigger holes are much easier to drill, especially when done imperfectly by hand and they are faster sifting It is very tedious to drill multiple holes. If I could have this invention made the way I imagine, the holes would perfectly spaced to improve the number of holes and they would be a bit smaller to accommodate all clumping litter types. The basket would also fit more flush on the bottom of the bin to eliminate gaps. The bin would have rounded or angled corners for easier tilting... but alas, all I can do is a cheap DIY because no company would invest in my idea. Unfortunately the whole world missed out and is still missing out on the perfected version of this box. 😿 It's such a simple idea. All it is, is a giant basket-like hand scoop that is half the shape of the inside of a litter box with convenient tilting sides. Stupidly simple.

@@Byromie I wrote that comment before doing my scoop project, so recently I drilled about 250x 6mm holes in a plastic 0,6L scoop. To get equal distances attach a marker and pencil together with a rubber band, put the pencil in the first hole and then rotate to draw a circle, drill the next hole on the circle line, insert the pencil in the new hole and draw another circle around it, put the next hole where circle lines intersect, repeat. It's the only way I could come up with to get an even coverage across a curved surface. The distance between hole centers is 9mm, considering the scoop is 3mm hard plastic I could have went for 8mm distance. I did holes in 3 steps, first punch with sharp tool, then 2mm drill and then 6mm drill, it was a ton of work. My 0,6L scoop holds about 4x the amount of litter compared to a typical small scoop yet requires the same amount of shaking, this is a big improvement but eventually I might go from 6mm holes (28mm²) to 6,5mm (33mm²) or 7mm (38mm²) holes to reduce shaking. Since shaking is less desired with your design, if anyone wants to try with the smallest holes possible I would start with 7 mm holes, better make holes too small initially then too big. It would not be fun at all to make but you could get a result where you don't need to hand shovel after, so eventually it should save time. Perfect hole size will depend on the litter so do some testing before you commit.

@onesixtyofficial Wow. That sounds like some dedicated work and planning. Thanks for sharing. Hope it works great for you in the end. Its amazing how much testing and thought can go into hole size and placement. @Byromie
@Byromie 6 жыл бұрын
kellyq21 I first made a basic box with sifter that requires the cat to enter from the top, BUT if someone wants a box with a covered lid then a door is necessary. At this point I cut a door which requires cutting the sifter scoop to match on both sides so the scoop can be inserted on the right or left without blocking the doorway. The handle is reattached after cutting these openings. Most storage bins are not tall enough for a cat to sit upright in with a lid on. I recommend an open top box with no side door. If you imagine putting an uncut, square, half-bin shaped scoop in then it would block half the cut doorway. Honestly my video is terribly edited (sorry) Some of the original shots either got deleted or I forgot to press record ugh. So some of you viewers are left to largely go off a picture vs actual instructions. But I knew my idea would be helpful as is

Here's the thing, with some improvements on his invention it would make the whole process so much more simpler. First of all why wouldn't you just buy the same two containers and cut the rim off of one so that the whole container fits inside the other? secondly I would drill smaller holes as to catch more waste, especially from clumping litter that tends to not be so perfectly effective 100% of the time? Then I would place the holes half way down from the top of the container leaving a U shaped cutout space on the narrow side of the container for the swinging door? As for handles I would attach simple drawer pulls or cabinet handles from any Hardware store to both sides of the sifter and then put the top on and Wala! Done. LMSFAO!

Day Dreamer when it does stick, which is rare (especially for me, because I put 30 - 40 lbs of litter inside) I just bang the box or the basket-scoop and it comes right off 👍

Thanks for the quick response. Your idea is clever. I went ahead and subbed. I have a Litter Robot which was great for a while. Was a game changer when it worked. But when we moved it got put into an awkward space, requiring an extension cord in the bathroom. And it has been hard to clean out the globe when it comes time and my one cat demands unusual attention. Plus it malfunctions nowadays. They make them easy to fix, but I may implement your idea eventually in the coming months. So far it is the best design I have seen. And I just looked at a ton of videos. Many thanks.

whoa I'm completely confused when you show the area u cut for the swinging door, I cant understand are u holding it together? Your hand looks like it's holding on a c shaped area you cut off, but yet the wooden dowel is screwed into the cut off part!! *I DON'T GET IT*
@Byromie
@Byromie 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, just noticed this comment. The swinging door is just taped on. The wooden dowel is screwed into both sides of the sifting basket. If you make a top entry box then you do not need to cut a door or cut the scoops in the sifting basket. But if making a side entry then the half-storage-bin sifting basket piece must be cut in the same shape as your side door. Put the basket inside and trace the opening of the door onto the basket. Then cut that section out, but cut it a bit bigger so the swinging door (if u put a swinging door on) doesn't catch on the basket when it is inserted. I hope this makes sense, and I hope I understood your question. If not, let me know. Sorry again for responding late P. S. I'm also really late in remaking this video. I moved my cat topics to a new channel. Cats & Fluff. Hoping to make a box to give away for 1k subs... Unofficial announcement on that

You only need 2 to 4 inches of litter. This is to heavy. Also, try wood or paper pellets.

I simply wanted to demonstrate how much volume and weight this design can handle. I never put a full bag in. My design smashes any litter box ability to hold this amount of weight and volume. If I could build it to the specs that I have envisioned (instead of a modified storage bin) it would also be even easier to use. With this said, I like the upper limit of recommended depth. The recommended depth should vary, pending litter type, cat size, cat habits, litter box type, and litter box size. If clumps are sticking then more litter is needed AND/OR a bigger box Almost every litter box ever made and is on the shelves is too small. A typical house cat, outdoors with unrestricted space will make about a 20" diameter dig spot. They also dig pretty deep outdoors. Most boxes lack even the length to fulfill a small adult house cats' natural urges. Growing up, my family had cats not only as pets but as employment for keeping pests at bay. Lived on the edge of town in the desert with a garden. Cats were outdoors most of the time. But now I live in town and cats are just pets 😻. I'm convinced that the litter (box) market is mostly designed for humans' benefit and needs to be turned on its head. I've tried wood pellets. Epic failure for *my cats. I transitioned them slowly and once I decided they were ready for 100% pellets they stopped burying the poop and started peeing on rugs. Total rejection. My cats did the same thing with Skoon Litter (a rocky diatomaceous earth litter). My cats just don't like chunky litter. I don't blame them. Imagine being a cat and having to dig and sit on chunky litter 😾😿. Im willing to bet that the vast majority of wood-pellets-trained cats (if not all of them) would switch back to dirt given the opportunity. I can see and understand the allure and benefits of wood pellets and why humans love them, but I strongly doubt any cat loves them.

@@Byromie but you do not need that weight nor volume. Arm and Hammer has a pretty good shifting litter box with fair high sides for around 17 dollars plus tax. Google Arm & Hammer Sifting Cat Litter Pan, Large

@@rebeccalankford2652 that's one of the better boxes for size, depth, and durability compared to the rest of the over-saturated-cheap-litter-box market. A good choice for options available. 👍 I still like to give my fur babies more room. Storage bins still reign Supreme. I even experimented with a monstrously large bin of 18" x 32" (not recommended... Way too big for average human to care for) and my cats absolutely love love love it. Sifting tray method has many flaws too, which is why I invented the tilt and Sift box here.

How big are the holes?
@Byromie
@Byromie 2 жыл бұрын
1/2 inch diameter. I know this might seem big, but I really find this size best and most functional. Any tiny clumps that fit through this size will always sift out last. They will end up on top and can be skimmed off the top easily with a hand scoop with finer slits

Creative idea, but doesn't work well with clumps of wet litter. Also, litter boxes should be twice as long as a cats body. Yours might be adequate for a kitten.
