how to make the crater texture

hello you dirty Potters. today we're talking about a texture that I've been obsessed with as of late. I've been calling this new Pottery texture the crater texture but I don't think it has an official name yet. I've just been calling it that because it looks like tiny craters.

I saw this on a few mugs a few months ago and tried it!! It is sooo much fun and the finished pieces are great!! I am a hand builder so I rolled out a slab and allowed it to dry a bit for doing tests on with different tools. That really helped since I had never done anything like this before. I did accidentally dig too deep on one mug and ended up making it into a candle holder! Lol. I found that if you swipe while leaving your thumb on the pot it gives you much more control!!

I’m obsessed with this texture at the moment too. Well actually I’m kinda obsessed with texture full stop at the moment

actually, just make a slab and practice on that to get the feel of your tool and the tension, direction, pressure, and shapes that you like...then make your mug and use it. As a beginner, I found that out quite quickly cuz making that mug is WAY longer and harder than messing it up with oops texture.
