In this video we make the classic 'shotgun terrarium". So called, because it's covered in holes.
I have used this chamber to great effect and have enjoyed much success with it.
It's a simple chamber, consisting of a clear plastic tub with holes drilled in to the bottom, the lid & sides and filled with a layer of saturated perlite.
The theory goes that as the cakes warm through metabolic activity they raise the ambient temperature inside the chamber which then draws in cool air from the bottom through the holes. This air is humidified by the perlite as it rises, displacing carbon dioxide as it does so!
Quite a clever little design that absolutely works!
Materials
Clear Plastic Tub
Perlite
Water
A drill
Aluminium foil.
Good luck and happy growing.

Nice job man. This is what I want to do once I am at that point. Just working with agar at the moment and having GREAT success. (very proud of my sterile technique so far) Keep making videos!!! There are so many techniques on how to do things and reasons to do one thing or another that we NEED different peoples iterations. The more info that is out there helps all the new people.

Cheers man! Kind of you to say. The more information out there the better. Im stoked that you're having great success with agar. You're sterile technique must be killer no filler. I have a new video coming out in the next couple of days :D A quick look into vectors of contamination. Im hoping some beginners and those new to mushroom cultivation will get some benefit from them!!!!

How much all up would you spend to make one of these? I have a few tubs and a drill already

Maybe $10 for the perlite. But if youre starting from the beginning with liquid culture your biggest expense will be a pressure cooker. Mine was around $350. Definitely a good investment though. Everything else is very cheap. To set up a functioning grow, you're looking at around $500. You don't need to buy everything at once. Just purchase a pressure cooker and what you need for each stage as you go. That's how I did it!

There's a 23 quart pressure cooker at Walmart for $123.00. Edit: hell Amazon has one for $70, basically the same cooker

I just dont get this? Why not just make a monotub? This seems like a huge waste of time, money, and resources. And drilling the bottom now means potential for moisture to run onto the floor? All the time wasted drilling, two boxes and perlite, when you could simply make a monotub with around 8 holes and a bit of tape? Please advise the point of this?

I originally used this for brf cakes when I was starting out. Got great results. When I moved to making mono tubs and shoe boxes etc, I would get side pins which were a mega pain to harvest. I got sick of it and decided to try removing the cakes and placing it in this terrarium whenever I got side pins so they could stretch their legs a little! No fruit left behind. I appreciate your thought process though and I do love monotubs

The only benefit to holes on the bottom is making sure it's never over watered... but careful measurements and humidity observations can deal with that
